Can you explain ESA to me? Do you get it if you're still working?

only if you are working for a council or approved body that deal with disabilities and you can not earn more than £99.00. DLA/PIP is not means tested

I was completely shocked when I applied for discretionary housing payments, as they DO include DLA in the means test, although I am fairly sure it's the only time it is mean tested! How low is that?! Is it just my local council or does it apply to every council? I then got refused DHP because the council made a mathematical error when working out what I had coming in! I appealed & won, but there was no apology, just a lame excuse for the error, which didn't make any sense at all! Who are these faceless beauracrats deciding whether we can afford to live or not? It's shocking & a bit terrifying too!!

I think it depends on whether it is contribution based or income based,I may well be totally wrong, but I'm in the WRAG and questioned whether mine was coming to an end as the year was about to be up and was told mine would continue as it was contribution based. Hope that helps a bit.

what is the difference between contribution based and income based

contribution is based on how many/much contributions you have made via national insurance if you have worked all your life you will get contribution based esa for just one year after this it depends on what money you have coming into your house so is based on your husbands/partners/parents/childrens wages/pensions or other benefits. hope this helps

if you are in the WRAG group of esa for one year you are on contributory esa then after that year you re-apply for income based esa (you can only get this if you have savings less than £8,000 if you live alone or if you live with or are married to a partner it is then less than £16,000 combined savings) when the year is up the dwp send you a leaflet"what to do next" and all this is information is in it, if you live alone and you do have more than £8,000 in savings then you are not entitled to claim income based esa and the same if you are married or living with a partner and have over 16,000in savings combined or your partner is working 25 hours or more or earning a certain amount(not sure how much) you are not entitled to claim income based esa

it is because esa income based is means tested ,whereas contributory esa wasn't , that is why they changed it to a year only so they could force people on job-seekers allowance , because the government don't care for the sick and for the elderly in this country, xx soft hugs ej

If you're in Support Group, you don't need to reapply after 1yr if contribution based. Only need to reapply if in WRAG & contribution based.

Contribution based stops after 1yr and if you are married to a working partner you cannot claim for income related if they earn something silly like over £70pw. This is our situation at the moment and it sucks :(
