Hello Elsiegirl,

I would suggest you consider talking to your GP about any new symptoms. I would mention your problems swallowing for an opinion and to enquire if any of your medications come in liquid form which would make it easier for you to take.

I have personally experienced problems swallowing on a rare occasion, however it sounds like this has been an ongoing problem for you. There is a condition called Sjogrens Syndrome which can affect the ability to swallow and can occur secondary to Fibro, however as always you should consider consulting your GP before any diagnosis can be made.

Here is a link below that you may find of interest,

As Pondministrel has mentioned, it is advised that people should never crush medication or empty capsules under any circumstances, unless they have been previously advised it is safe to do so from the GP or pharmacist. Some medications have certain coatings for specific reasons to slow absorption of the drug for instance.

Here is a link with advice from the NHS & it provides 10 tips you may like to try which may help you to swallow your pills,

I hope this has been helpful and do let us know how you get on over the next week or so.

All the best,

Emma :)

I find this a help too. I make sure my drink is ice cold and I think it's the cold that makes me swallow them quickly! XX

I have real trouble swallowing my tablets. I've been told it's also because I have diabetes. I regularly retch in the mornings, and once that's over I'm OK! XX

I find apple juice helps when I get like this. Not sure why but it can be better than water.
