I'm not sure. My hands and feet are always swollen in the morning. Sometimes my ankles are swollen too. Sorry can't really answer your question. I hope it helps to know someone else experiences this too.

As well as all the other reasons given, various types of medication, for a range of different complaints, can also cause swelling. Some of these of these medicines are very likely to cause swelling and some are very unlikely. My feet swell in the hot weather but they also swelled when I took a certain medication a couple of months ago. My GP immediately took me off the medication because of this.

You should always read, very carefully, the information leaflets which come with any drugs, as they will always list both possible side effects, (such as swollen feet), whether they are a common or uncommon side effect and whether you should go back to your doctor, if they occur.

Hello EEm swelling is caused by retention of fluid. Most fluid is pumped around our bodies by gravity well this is the case for your legs. So when we are imobile or static a lot the fluid collects and the ankles swell. This also happens when the weather is very hot or by flying and the changes in pressure around us. Some people also suffer from lymphodema when the fluid gathers and the swelling becomes extreme.

How can we help well put them up when you are sitting cold compresses hope this helps xgins

Hi

Some people with fibro also experience the sensation of swelling in hands and feet, even if their fingers and hands look normal, it is yet another lovely fibro symptom. As has been said it can be caused by certain meds, fluid retention etc. have you had your blood pressure checked recently as that can also be responsible. My mum swells up like the michelin man and she has high blood pressure. Try sitting with your feet up for an hour every day as that will help. It could also be as a result of the very hot weather we have been having. It wouldn't hurt to see your GP just to make sure it is nothing to worry about.

I must just add that I suffer from swollen hands and ankles/feet as well as fibro and other things and have found that drinking a lot more water really helps, because being dehydrated leads the body to retain fluids, hence swelling.

This was what I was about to say , dehydration is one of the most common reasons that our body's go into fluid retention , especially when this is a new symptom . It sounds crazy you need to drink more when you are is so much discomfort from the swelling caused by fluid . But it's your body's way of storing the fluid because it needs more . The reason it's common in hands and feet are just because they are our outer extremities furthest point to be pumped to heart . So that's where it gathers to hide . If you drink more over the next few days and there is no. Improvement then I would visit your gp for a check up. As well as dehydration, the comments on lack mobility, medication side effects are also common causes. As a a&e nurse and staff nurse for over 20 years , the first thing we do is raise legs , give a increase fluid challenge over 24-48 hours and check kidney function through bloods and look at any new medication the person started in last 3 months for side effects.
