Does anyone else with Fibromyalgia su... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Does anyone else with Fibromyalgia suffer from incredibly painful feet (the balls of my feet are affected) and/or cracked heels?
Yes! Heels especially, but also balls. Keeps me awake at night. Cold compress helps sometimes. Or alternating cold and heat. Wonder if special insoles would help?
I've tried reflexology but I find that my husband does a better job when he massages my feet for me. I get a burning pain in the balls of my feet and walking becomes extremely painful. I'll give the hot & cold compress idea a try. Also, no matter what I do or how many heel balms I use, my heels crack. I read somewhere that this may be related to FM.
I don't get it in the balls of my feet but often used to feel like I was walking on the bones in my heels, unbearable! Then I discovered 'Fly Flots', they don't cure it but because of the really bouncy construction of the soles, they do make standing/walking so much easier, shoeshop.com carry the whole range. My eldest daughter who's identical heel problem is diagnosed as plantar faciitis, tells me I shouldn't wear any shoe that doesn't support the back of the foot, so flip flops and mules are out. Maybe any of the above could be worth a try for you too.
I would ask your doctor if Plantar Faciitis could be the issue. This needs Physio, possibly Orthotics, possibly anti-inflammatories.
Even if not, physio may be of benefit as it could potentially be linked to Myofascial Trigger Points.
I would also ask whether the overly cracked skin could be a sign of a fungal skin infection. This can sometimes be a sign of a systemic Candida overgrowth issue, which would cause similar symptoms to Fibro.
Fibro can obviously cause pain anywhere in the body, but predictable localised pain usually has another cause, even if it is something that is often associated with Fibro like the above.
My feet are very sore too, generally these symptoms appear when walking or standing, ie they aren't particularly a problem when I sit down. Balls of my feet and heels, and I'm very careful about shoes with a deep cushioned sole - trainers are best but SO ugly! Never had any skin problems though ...
Thanks for the feedback. I definitely don't have a fungal skin infection and I don't believe that I have systemic Candida overgrowth, although I have looked at this possibility in the past. The pain in my feet is usually worse when I am having a fibro flare-up and is not necessarily related to walking or standing. Often, I have my worst pain after being off my feet all night! I can hardly walk when I get up in the morning and hobble around until the pain eases up - which is usually after I have been moving around for a while. Sadly, I find I cannot wear shoes with heels any-more so I buy good, flat, orthopaedic footwear which does seem to help a little.
Pain that is worse upon getting up in the morning is a classic sign of plantar faciitis fwiw. I would definitely suggest asking about this and getting a physio referral.
At one point I could not walk without pain. I could feel every stone or particle under my feet. It helps if you use footwear with a thick or spongy sole. I wear trainers or fit flops around the house. Had been fine for months then went on a night out (dressy shoes) and walking on uneven surfaces brought all the pain back again. Was about 3 hours of sitting before the pain left.
I have extremely painful feet.... infact my friends now actually laugh at me (not that it is anything to laugh about) but I normally say because I feel this 'My feet are broke'............ so painful...at night they are on fire, kept out of bed and in the morning very sore to stand on first thing......
Thank you Ruth14 & Maggieblue for your response. I've been convinced that my painful feet are somehow connected to my FM because I can go for days when my feet feel fine and then, all of a sudden and for no obvious reason, they are so painful that I can't even think straight! I began to notice that this often co-incided with a fibro flare-up. I just wondered whether anyone else had experienced the same symptoms. Many thanks for your feedback.
Yes I get this quite badly at times it is worse for me when I am off my crutches as more weight goes through them. I thought I was imaging it I am so glad that I am not the only one? I can not wear any other shoes other than flat one or my trainers due to pain. Does anyone else's feet swell up also or is that just me?
i am not being sarcastic or anything , but how do you manage on crutches, i find that if i try to use them, i end up in agony all over for a few days ?
Yes my feet swell dreadfully,as I only take size 4 shoes I say my feet look like an haggis with little sausages on!! Sadly I have to say that FM pain will get you from head to toe,its like having an army of gremllns in your body stomping up and down, and every now and again they stop for a punch up using your body as a punch bag!! I try to look at it like that or I would be crying all the time.I wish you well.
hi im new here and suffer from fibro, my feet kill me, honest all of the above, the burning pain in the balls of my feet especially if i wear high heeled shoes or boots, and as for my heels, first thing in the morning is worst time, i feel like my heels (on my feet) and the back of my ankle have shrunk and every step i take is stretching them.
yes i suffer so much at times with pain from the top of my feet join from the bottom of my leg and can not walk without limping i have noticed its worse when wearing flat trainers walking shoes have improved it alittle but the pain is so random at times but more painful and regular recentlly.
Yes I also suffer with painful feet - the sole on my left foot has less sensation/feeling than the right - but also I often feel like the Metatarsals in the feet have broken due to the swelling muscles. I crave to put my feet in cold water and have even stood on the path outside in winter with the garden hose soaking the feet. Sounds crazy but this is what works for me. Hope you are all having a good morning so far.
I have Morton's neuroma in my right foot. Pain in the ball of the foot. If you squeeze your toes together gently you would feel a faint pop between the third and 4th toe. Thats the swollen nerve popping out between the bones. Ive had two steroid injections, physio and orthopaedic insoles that haven't worked so far. Going back for another surgery referral next.
I suggest going to your GP and telling them all about the problem, it could be any number things.
Now I used to suffer the pain like this in the ball of my foot and terrible bad cracked heels and also cracks on the edge of the ball of my foot area too and that was agonising. I had been like it for as long as I could remember and like the other lady my pain was at it's worst when I had been off my feet and went to get back up again like in the morning or if I had been sat for a while in the evening or whilst travelling. I was just like the description that was given and hobbling is how I had always described it and to be honest it felt like the tendons in my feet were too taught and were not letting my foot go back down to a flat position as it would normally be so it was almost like walking on a pebble under your foot. I have found that since I have stopped working after becoming really bad with the Fibro condition and being diagnosed with that and also OA in my hips and knees I don't seem to feel the feet problem and whether that is down to the fact that I am not running around on my feet all the time now as I was before or whether it is down to not feeling it due to the very strong opiate meds I am on I could not say. The other side of it with the dry, cracked heels has been alleviated since I became diabetic and was advised by the podiatrist to have a good moisturising cream put on them every day and if I could get one with Urea in it then all the better,. I was told to try to get 10% if I could but at the beginning could only find 5% at Boots and got my carer that comes to help me in the morning to rub it into my feet religiously every day and now my feet are the best they have ever ever been and I am finally proud to let people see them whereas I was highly embarrassed by them before. It is also so much more comfortable as I have not got that dreadful pain from the heels splitting down to deep gashes and hurting like mad. I suggest that if any of you have this problem with the skin that you try the same but failing using the cream with Urea any good thick moisturising cream will help to as many times I have had to go back to ordinary ones myself many times and tend to find that creams in pots seem to be better on me than lotions that are a litte too light, Hope it may help somebody.
aw my feet been terrible even sore to walk , i use cracked heel cream a little bettter but not healed what is the name of your cream ? urea an ingredient?
The cream I used to start with was one I got from Boots and to be honest I cannot remember the name now but any cream that has Urea in it should be fine as that is what my podiatrist told me when I first went to get it. At one stage Aldi had in a load of pots of cream with urea in and that was all at 10% but sadly it was a one off and has not been in there since but I look out for it each time I go in there because it was an excellent price and if I had known they were going to only have it in as a special I would have bought many more jars of it. They even did a shampoo with it in for dry scalp conditions like psoriasis etc too. I am sorry I can't remember the name but do ask in Boots and the first lot I had from their was in a bottle as it was lotion and that went a long way as it was £12 nearly for the bottle so I used to make the carer go careful with it. I hope you get a chance to find some. It may be worth Googling it to see what you get come up about it.
Actually I just popped into Google and did it myself and the cream was called Eucerin. I also noticed that there is a cream that has a good range for various dry skin conditions with differing percentages of Urea in it called Udderly Cream and it is available on Amazon at really reasonable prices and there are also write ups on Net Doctor etc on using Urea and what it does to help the skin moisturise etc. Hope that helps you.
me too, i get sore feet and it feels like someone has folded them in half, but better with a foot massage from my hubby
Thanks to all who have answered my question. It looks like painful feet, whatever the initial cause, may also be symptomatic of FM. I'd be interested to find out if there has ever been a study done on this. Hope you are all having a good day
hello , my feet at there worst on waking up ,there stiff, ankles wont bent and if i kneel down ,foot cramps, toes go every which way, painful to say the least . T
end to rotate ankles now and stretch toes up n down before i stand ,it helps
this is properly unusual but the most comfortable shoes for me tend to be flip flops which should hurt as you tense to keep them on but they give feet time to cool and swell.......I don't know if this works but someone at a skin specialist said to try putting aspirin in a bowl of hot water and put you feet in for awhile and it helps ease pain and improves the skin not tried it yet so don't know how true it good is
I will try that shedevil ,try anything once eh lol
hi i get pins and needles in my feet all the time these days, but ive had cracked and very dry heels for years only wear flat comfy shoes and of late my legs and feet are on fire but only when i go to bed otherwise they are freezing......
I get a lot of pain in the soles of my feet, nerve type pain is soo unbearable when I try to walk or stand for more than a few seconds. It means I am no longer able to walk much without a constant pain...because the feet are always stabbing away from the bottom. I'm already on slow release opiates medication day and evening because no other medication would help at all. Someone on one of the other posts suggested a foot spa with lavender. Has anyone else got any useful suggestions to relieve the pain? Lots of love and gentle hugs to everyone xxx
Yes every minute if every day, since I got a job stood fir 8 hrs a day,I don't know how I go on,it's agonising they feel in fire, raw swollen and so painfull even laid in bed after my late shift and they still feel the same, nothing helps, creams tablets, don't know what to do,or what it is,if u find out plz lets know thanks and keep smiling xx
