Hi everyone hope you are all well.

I have finally been diagnosed with fibromyalgia after 4 years back and forth. It actually feels like a relief to know it's not all in my head. I have also been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease particularly severe in my lower back do any of you on here have this on top of fibro and how do you manage your pain levels?

Hi purplestaffie,

I know the feeling, I'm sure most of us went through the same all deal. I still remember the look of my GP each time I went to see him and said "I know there something wrong with me even though all the tests and visits to the hospital are coming up as normal" I gave up seeking for an answer to all that pain for a couple of years. Until a new GP joined the surgery. I told him how I felt " that I was going crazy and feel like I'm lying "

He printed out a sheet for me from his computer and said" take this home and read it, I suspect you have fibromylgia "

First time I heard of it!!! Eventually, after about 7 months and a few visits to the hospital. I was officially diagnosed by a rheumatologist. Now I'm into another dilemma, I have different pain to the fibromylgia pain that I'm used to for 15 years. I suspect I have other conditions. However, my GP is pinning everything this to the. FM and depression.

Finally, take care of yourself, keep safe ☺

Yes I do and I also have osteoporosis which was dx when I was 42yrs, the problem is trying to find away to deal with two types of pain together. Not sure if I am very successful yet!

Very similar situation regard diagnosis. Hope you have a decent GP and if not try and find one. Easier said than done in this climate. Loads of info on here.

Hot water bottles, Hot bathes. Try keep your weight under control ( one of many of my regrets). Early on with my back accupuncture was really good. Fibro has me baffled and its all about pacing and even that can often not be enough.

Past 12 months i have put my back out good and propper and been laid out on diazapan a handful of times but i find that easier to cope with than a fibro flare up. Mentally fibro has fried me not going to lie.

Hi

I've got both too, along with crushed nerves on the base of my spline & Coccydynia.

I am due to start an Injection of Anaesthesic, it's a large dose administered over a couple of hours.

The pain management clinic recommended this to me.

Maybe this might help you xx

Hi thank you all for your replies. I am now currently in hospital as I have developed numbness in the saddle area. MRI today shows my herniated disc has gotten worse and compressing my nerves in the spine. Think they are going to operate 😢. This is not the half term I had planned for my little one.

Like you, I have both fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease. My discs that have deteriorated have been injected with a mixture of anaesthetic and a steroid. This has radically reduced the pain and worked really well. It involves being a day case at the local hospital and the injections were carried out under x-ray, but no general anaesthetic was required. It cost the NHS a lot to provide this treatment and I suspect that is one of the reasons why it is not widely offered.

Yes I have herniated discs in the neck, thoratic and lumbar. I take Tramadol 50 mg 2 times a day. But I have been reading that it is addictive. a The other prob is they say u will have to take more mg eventually. I started having symptoms of fibro a few months back. Back pain muscles very painful other things starting to happen. Tramadol helps that for now. Tramadol I found also it help with depression. I don't find that to be tru for me. Research
