Hello annabannana66, You may find you cannot tolerate Gabapentin its quite a high dose to be started on for the first time, I couldn't tolerate it as I found it was giving me more pains else where and another friend who has fibro felt the same! Are you under the Pain clinic? And was this your Gp who gave you the medication? If you find you don't get on with the Gabapentin then don't be fobbed off with Pre gabapentin as the two are very similar! Ask to be referred to the pain clinic and if you feel ill on this drug then stop it gradually depending how much you've taken and go back to the doctor for something else. I'm sure you can take Paracetamol as a top up! Hugs for you.. Aisha xx
hi aisha thanks for advice will see how i get on my gp prescribed the gabapenten , took first one yesterday pain unreal not been refered to a pain clinic yet only just diagnosed after around 8 yrs of suffering with the odd break but this last year has been unreal . im lucky if i get 2hrs sleep a night concentration terrible forget things all the time. i just wish i could sleep x i hope you are well today xxx anna x
Hi you can take paracetamol as well as gabapentin as I take cocodamol that has paracetamol in it as well as codeine, hope you get some help soon Cherokee
Hi, amytryptaline which is an older type of antidepressant is often prescribed for sleep and nerve pain. I take 25mg a night, sleep improved. Gabapentine, tramadol etc I find makes me feel out of it during the day so I don't take them. Everyone is different and it takes a while for some of us to find what works best and the right dose. Pacing I find is very helpful, e.g I get up and have a drink, lie down, get washed and dressed, lie down, have breakfast lie down, and so on. Sounds extreme I know but by the afternoon I'm usually Ok. Same process at night. Hope this helps.
hi,ask your doctor about phenergan tablets...i have those and they work for me..plus they are non addictive thats one of the reasons my doc gave them to me..x

Your GP may also find the NHS Choices information helpful.
If your GP is not confident at treating your condition, they should refer you to a specialist service, such as a pain management clinic.
Hi Anna i have also just recently been diagnosed with Fibro after many years of pain. Still struggling to come to terms with it to be honest and i am also still suffering with the pain. Sleep for me is not too bad although i do wake up frequently, most of time i can fall back to sleep. I have been suffering daily chronic headache for over 2 years and have been and various different meds of which dont work. My diagnosis of fibro came in about 2 months ago and my doc tried me on citalopram which is an anti-depressant but contains serotonin which is apprently one of the reasons behind fibro. I seem to be very suseptible to side effects and had to come off the citalopram as i became very ill. He has now put me on Sertraline which works the same. After a long and much persuassion he also gave me some muscle relaxants being Baclofen. He refuses to even consider pain killers! I also take b12, b2 and folic acid due to deficiencies. I take magnesium every day and i have changed my diet to fresh food only and drink nothing apart from water and decaff tea. I know it is just a case of finding what works for me and just having the patience and determination to get there. I have felt slightly better this past week but not well enough to actually get up and do anything. But any kind of positive is a god send to me. Seems me and you are in the same boat but i do hope you feel better soon. TRy anotyher doctor that seems to be the main advice i have got from the kind people on this site. Thats my next port of call if thses new tabs really dont kick in. Thinking of you Anna stay strong!!!! Its hard work i know but im sure we'll get there.
Hi All my doctor has put me on sertralin and i have 1/2 in the morning, its taken three weeks for me to feel a bit better mind wise, she also suggested I take Q10 200 for the energy side of it, it does seem to work, butstill the pain there and I know nothing will take that away, but at last I have a bit of mental energy to push my self if only a little, as I keep saying this fibro is a bumer and drives you mad, the pain is so intense and sore and feels like its burning ...Gentle hugs to you all ...Dee xxx
