I also had come down witb shingles. Yuck and soooo itchy. Aparantly there has been an influx of chicken pox. Zovorax for 7 days@ 5 times. Day Amatriltalune for pain and calimine lotion. People with autoimmune disease do suffer. And...... an injection is available Dec. 2013 as you can get it over again and again

Shingles
sorry to hear that. Before you get any injections - make sure that it will be ok with any drugs you are taking. I am on methotrexate for RA and I am also not immune to chicken pox - so I have a letter from the hospital telling me to avoid any contact with chicken pox as I cannot take the anti-viral drugs!!
Are you unable to take Acyclovir because you are on Methotrexate? If so, what are the complications. I have had both but not at the same time.
I had a bad bout of shingles after my chemotherapy and was prescribed acyclovir. It resulted in losing the use of my right arm and shoulder which took three years to recover - this appears to be because of damage to the nerve sheath by methotrexate - however no doctor wants to discuss this with me.
I am on Aciclovir 1 x 5 times a day but only with 5 days supply, which of course will take me up to the weekend when I won't be able to get any more if I need them. Surgery won't prescribe any extra 'just in case' which I find most unhelpful - you'd have thought just a piece of paper only to be used if necessary would have been in order.
Regarding the injection, I asked about this and apparently they're only being given to people aged either 71 or 79 (not 75 so I can't have one). Strange way of prioritising!
