medication withdrawal

good morning,

I am currently 9wks 4days. So happy to get this far and hoping every day for it to continue positively.

I have about 2 wks left on my medication, 4 oestrogen tablets and 3 progesterone pessaries a day. The clinic said that once I get to 12 weeks I can just stop.

this seems a extreme to me but I understand that by this point my body will have taken over. I’m just wondering if I should expect any side effects from stopping? I haven’t had a midwife appointment yet to ask them.

Thanks!

Can be a worrying time but it is thought that by 12 weeks the placenta will be producing it's own supply Could maybe try a gradual reduction in meds - just a thought Also are you aware there is a Pregnancy Forum that I am sure you would find helpful.

For extra support take a look at our website fertilitynetworkuk.org Access Support and in Fertility Groups you will find UK-Wide Groups Then scroll to Pregnancy after Fertility Problems and follow the prompts to register your interest - there is a Zoom meeting this evening at 8pm [meetings every 4th Tuesday of the month ]

Take care

hi! I am also 9 weeks 4 days! Congratulations :)

My clinic wanted me to stop progesterone (x3 a day) this week but I was nervous. I asked the midwife in my appointment what her thoughts where and she said no down side to continuing progesterone, only issue is how I’m feeling mentally and physically (increased amount impacting bloating and slightly low mood).

So I asked my clinic if I could continue to 12 weeks and they agreed but said after that their research shows really no need. You body takes over in a very different way to when you are trying TTC. Trust you body at this point is the advice.

Hope this helps.

No obvious side effects for me, pregnancy symptoms had well and truly taken over by then! It's scary just stopping when you have been reliant on them for so long but I've done it twice now and everything has been fine!

I didn’t get any side affects at all from stopping. My clinic suggested I stop at 10weeks, I had a gradual decrease but was also feeling nervous about it. I did have some spotting around about the time I stopped them but had a scan and everything was fine, unsure exactly what the cause was but I was worried it was due to stopping the meds but all was fine. They said your body takes over so stopped at 10weeks xx
