Brown spotting/bleeding and cramps at 5 weeks

Hi everyone,

Finally got our BFP on 3rd attempt FET, now I am 5 weeks 3 days and have started brown spotting. I have had cramps for weeks, which I put down to the progesterone. I had an ectopic in May and I'm terrified it's another one, or a miscarriage. Has anyone experienced similar but been ok?

I had very similar and all was well! My son is now 17 months old. If you look at my post history you should be able to find my post around the same time with responses of people that experienced similar. It's so scary especially when you've had a loss before but you have to remember that this is a different pregnancy and there's no reason it won't all work out. They never worked out why I had bleeding but said it could be irritation from the pessaries. The cramping was put down to progesterone and just normal pregnancy symptoms as your uterus is expanding and baby is getting comfy. Best of luck!

Thanks so much for replying, I'm hopeful mine is the same! Had a scan yesterday and it's not ectopic (I have a history of ectopic) so that's a relief, really hopeful that this will stick!

Hi Olivia, same as above poster, I had spotting at 5 weeks and again at 8 weeks Was brown and bit like coffee grounds. Lasted 5 days ish. Clinic said implantation or irritation. My son is now 2, everything was fine. X

Hi Olivia_Grace, same here. Brown spotting at 7 weeks and 10 weeks. Both for 24 hours at a time. Clinic said the bleeding was from my cervix and not my uterus. 33 weeks and counting. Fingers crossed for you! I also had mild cramping on and off up to about 8 weeks which was implantation and a good sign xx

I went though a miscarriage three weeks ago and it was really not brown but extremely red. I had brown spotting during a previous pregnancy and all went well.

I had this with both of mine until around 12 weeks…when I stopped cyclogest. My eldest is now 4 and youngest is 2. All the best for your pregnancy!!!

Hi! I'm 5 weeks today and got some really mild light pink spotting only when I wipe. Reading a million things in a panic has made me more reassured. I'm on the pessaries so putting it down to them, looking forward to my scan in 2 weeks! You got this!! Xx

I had some more dramatic red blood and cramping yesterday, at todays scan they said everything fine and might be implantation bleed/unexplained. Was so scared! This whole thing is a roller coaster! Good luck for you too!

It turns out it is quite common I think, mine might also have been irritation of the cervix like the poster below, I think I was putting the utrogesterone up really high because was scared it would fall our but I think I irritated the cervix

I'm also putting my cyclogeat way up. I use an applicator. This is the first time I have ever had spotting/bleeding. I have had 5 transfers and never had such, so it was making my anxiety go way up. Also it's accompanied with cramps. But the responses are reassuring and I strongly believe all is well.

Yes so much cramping! And yes I use the applicator, I was so worried about it falling out, but the nurse said yesterday it's the gel one that's the messy one (crinone), my pants are always full of white and I was worried it was all the meds

I use a light pad because I realise after every cycle, I needed to get brand new pants. So I decided to start wearing light flow pad to catch the white stuff from cyclogest. Panty liners weren't working for me. It still leaked.

If it helps, I found soaking my pants in very hot water helped to remove the wax residue. It's a good alternative to keep using disposable products.

I had first a flush of pink/red blood and then brown spotting from week 5 to week 7. Ultrasound at week 7 has shown a strong heartbeat. I’m now at week 8, and the spotting has stopped. Mine was a fully medicated FET, so the doctor believes it could be due to increased vascularization of the cervix and irritation from the progesterone pessaries.

I’m not sure what has changed since I’m still using the pessaries, but I’m glad the spotting has ended. It was definitely a trigger, and seeing it every time I wiped was sending my anxiety through the roof.

I like to think that the placenta is starting to take over, so there’s more progesterone in my system, supporting the pregnancy.

Great news about the heartbeat! I think mine might have been the cervix as well, as it always happened one hour after using the utrogestrone pessary stick and I was so worried about it falling out I shoved it up really high! It also happened one day after the first sex in like 6 months, which I don't think helped! Think cervix is v sensitive right now.

I have wiped today and have pinky discharge, (5weeks + 2) am going to the clinic tomorrow for bloods and a very early scan. But feeling super anxious now. I had bloods done 2 days ago and everything was fine. Has anyone else had this?!
