5 weeks and brown spotting

I have TTC for 10 years and found out I am 5 weeks 4 days last week. I have been getting very light brown on the tissue whenever I wipe and sometimes has little 'coffee grounds' in it but it is very minimal (unless I am constipated). I just wanted to check if this was normal or should I be panicking? I went to the hospital this week and they said I need to come back in 2 weeks to be able to see if everything is okay. Did anyone else get this as I have had it for 4 days so far. It is barely there and hardly visible but gets worse if I use the toilet and am constipated.

I am so worried I have wanted this for so long.

Hi BambiBoo. Obviously drink plenty of water and avoid constipation. Sometimes this can be caused by infection or even irritation from pessary use. You could try them in your back passage for a few days. Brown blood is old blood so hopefully will soon pass. Hopefully your scan will reassure you. Diane

Thank you. I don't use pessaries. It seems to be whenever I use the toilet and depending on how much I 'push' the blood is more but no clots. Just very light brown and only when I wipe so nothing on panty liners.

You should avoid straining when pregnant. Brown blood isn’t necessarily bad news xx

Hi, I had this at 5 weeks and again at 7 weeks. It was brown like coffee grounds and lasted for 5 days to a week. Everything was fine and I have my son. My clinic told me the 5 weeks was most probably implantation bleeding. I hope everything works out okay for you x

Thank you! Google tells me the worst so I’ve been panicking all week.

I had this from 5 weeks on and off for 2 weeks. I do have a haematoma which could’ve caused mine but went to my clinic and they’ve scanned me twice now and all is ok so far (I am only 8 weeks though). It stopped after 2 weeks of it being on and off, I wrote on here too as I was panicked but brown blood is old blood so as long as you aren’t in pain and it isn’t that much, try not to worry. Although I know how hard that is to say because all I do is worry :) xx

I had the bleeding too and a subchorionic haematoma was discovered. I read Google and panicked, but the hospital said it would pass at 12 weeks on it's own. They gave me progesterone injections to help and I stopped the Aspirin. I'm now 28 weeks pregnant. What they said about the bleeding is "don't worry unless you fill a pad. If that happens come in straight away"

Regarding constipation, I take magnesium supplements and that seems to help.

X

This is really normal! I spotted through out my first trimester. Fresh bright red blood is more concerning. I know it’s hard but to worry,, but it just sounds like old blood coming out when you strain. Could be from implantation… I would definitely try to address the constipation to help with this and also for your comfort.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! 🥳

Xx

I had spotting when I had a hard "number 2", or of I had sex while pregnant. In the end it was an ectropion, so sensitive tissue outside the uterus, which was made more sensitive by the pregnancy's hormones. But my little girl was well stuck inside

Good luck, have some rest and let us know in two weeks time!

Yeah it seems to only come back when I use the toilet and ‘push’ hard lol. But it’s looking more like discharge instead of blood. Feeing quite sick today so going to leave the shopping centre and rest. Thank you for replying.

I bled at 7 weeks, 14 weeks & at 16 weeks was heavy with a large clot. The hospital could find no reason for any of it and I’m currently 36 weeks🤰🏼
