*sensitive* positive test - looking for advice

Good evening ladies, hope everyone is fairing well in this awful weather. I hope I’m ok posting this in here.

So I was waiting for my day 1 of my cycle to have bloods and scan ready to start my 4th round of ivf. My period is due any day and I had been having some of my usual symptoms but nothing was happening so I decided to take a test. Lo and behold it was positive. I have never in 8.5 years of ttc ever had a natural bfp. I’m not holding my breath and getting carried away just yet as it’s super early (although I have no idea when I ovulated) the two tests I have done are faint too, but obviously positive. Anyway all this rambling is basically to ask what on earth do I do? As I say I’ve never been in this position. Should I be trying to get some progesterone or anything or do I need to get my bloods done? Do I just ring the doctors? Obviously before when I have had positives (only 2 which ended in chemical and miscarriage) I’ve been under my clinic for this, but I finished at one and was going to another so currently out of that.

Sorry if any of this is insensitive or I shouldn’t ask but I know there are many women in here who will have been through this so just looking for some guidance if possible.

Thank you so much ladies ✨

Firstly a very quiet congratulations 🎊 I would speak to your clinic or GP and see what they would recommend. My mind initially jumped to 'get progesterone!' But I think someone more qualified should be making that decision with you. However whatever decision that is, you are pregnant and that is a wonderful thing and I hope it all works out well for you! ❤️❤️

Thanks for your reply. I contacted my clinic which I have done 3 rounds with and they just told me to contact my GP. So that wasn’t much help! But obviously it’s Saturday and they’re not open til Monday. I do have some left over cyclogest so I’m just going to use some on the off chance. I have done another two tests tonight, the free is lighter but the internet cheapie is much darker than the others I’ve done of those. Who the hell knows. It’s going to be a fun weekend I can tell 😅 xxx

yes.. quite congratulations to you how very magical, enjoy the feeling and keep happy hormones flowing.

I would say get into the feeling of trusting your body and thanking it for coming this far.

I would agree progesterone may be good, perhaps there is a fertility coach or nutritionist near you that can help with bloods and next steps ? Dr might help but I always worry about lead times.

Thanks so much for your reply. Yeah that’s my concern with GP. I don’t think anything like that is near me from googling. Will ring my GP on Monday morning and see what they say. Either if it’s still positive or has turned negative. I’ve got some bloods booked for Tuesday anyway so wonder if they can add HCG & progesterone on xxx

Quiet congratulations 🥰

After going through similar this year it was very difficult to get progesterone with it being a natural pregnancy but if you can manage to get your clinic to prescribe them then it is definitely worth trying. I’ve had 4 natural pregnancies this year after IVF in 2022 and throughout all of those I did private bloods. I managed to get some bloods through my local midwife too after explaining the IVF situation. Good luck ❤️

Thanks so much for your reply. I contacted my clinic and they told me to contact my GP, which was quite annoying as I know my GP will tell me she doesn’t really know about fertility that in depth, but what can I do. Maybe pepper my clinic a little bit more. Be a bit more forceful. I’m obviously happy to pay to get seen to, I have been an NHS patient there but I just finished my last funded cycle. And didn’t want to stay with them as feel their customer service and empathy isn’t the best, and they’ve proved that point again really lol. Sorry to hear you’ve had such a rollercoaster of a year, I’m hoping it’s all worked out well for you now xxx

I’m so sorry your clinic aren’t being helpful. As for reaching out to your GP, some can be really good with it but I’d try to ask for one that has some interest in fertility and that may work our better for you. I was given a locum doctor on multiple occasions that was not interested in listening to the NICE guidelines, so I had to wait until I’d had the 3 miscarriages for them to refer me anywhere. My regular GP did say that once I’d had written confirmation from a gynaecologist that I should be prescribed progesterone, they would take it over and they did. I paid privately to see a gynaecologist at the Nuffield (I’m up North and not sure if these clinics are elsewhere?) and he was the one that told my GP to prescribe. You could maybe try your clinic on this route and see if they’ll write to your GP.

Thankfully the month it was prescribed and I took it from a positive test, something changed and I’m currently 15 weeks, so for me I definitely think it made a difference ❤️ thanks so much xxx

Thanks so much for your reply. Yes I’m going to ring them Monday morning and see what they say. I felt stupid ringing Friday in case it just is a chemical (which I fear it may be) but will see what happens over the weekend!xxx

Aw thanks for the message. Unfortunately it did end in a chemical pregnancy for me and I started bleeding today. It was nice to have that small amount of hope for a week though. And I’m still perplexed as to how it happened naturally all these years later. But feel it makes me think it will still never happen for us as it still didn’t take properly. I just hope and pray that some kind of miracle can happen. I hope you are ok xxx

Hello, all the best for the future. Perhaps when you ask advice from GP use this reference tommys.org/baby-loss-suppor...

There's a leaflet you can download from that

Lots of GPs aren't up to date with the current guidelines.

Hope that will help your conversation with them .

Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 🙏🏻

Cautious congratulations ❤️when I got pregnant naturally and was between treatment, the clinic we were setting up to start with were great when I contacted them with my WTF do I do?! They did HCG and progesterone bloods and sorted progesterone, pred and clexane (which we know I need) and early scan. Hope all goes well xx

Thanks so much for your reply. The problem I have with the new clinic is it’s based in London and I’m in the north west. I messaged my other clinic, who I have had 3 rounds with up here and they just told me to ring my GP which was a bit annoying. I’ve got some left over progesterone so I’m just going to take some over the weekend and see what the doctor says Monday. I think it may be a chemical as my frer is lighter tonight, but my internet cheapie is much darker than my others of those, so who knows 🤯. Will just have to test again tomorrow or Monday if I don’t start bleeding already. Thanks again and hope all is well with you xxx

Could your new clinic arrange a Stork prescription delivery? Ultrasound direct do same day bloods to share with your clinic in north west.

I really hope you get it sorted. Sadly GPs often have their hands tied about prescribing these sort of medications as they’re not fertility specialists. It’s such a worry I know. Hope you get some support xxx

aww this is wonderful news. I really hope you can enjoy the fact you’re pregnant and keeping everything crossed for you for a happy and healthy pregnancy! I would probably ring your clinic first and explain - they might still be able to assist and if not, point you in the right direction. If they think you’d benefit from progesterone they may help by writing to your GP perhaps x

Thanks for your reply. I am also a huge crazy cat lady so loving the name! Yeah I contacted my clinic that I’ve done the past 3 rounds with and they just told me to contact my GP. So wasn’t so helpful. The clinic I am moving to is in London and I’m based in the north west so it’s a bit of a journey for potential bloods or whatever. My GP are usually quite good so hopefully they will help me out. I’ve got some left over progesterone so I’ve just taken some of those. Surely can’t do any harm? Thanks again xxx

Hey, so lovely to read this although i am sure you have all sorts of uncertainties and stresses at the moment. Maybe a bit difficult if you are in between clinics but like other posters, my clinic initially supported me. They did tests like HCG and progesterone. They gave me private prescriptions up until 12 weeks and they scanned me for viability (even though it was a natural pregnancy I had been with them for multiple cycles of treatment before that). I have found GPs to have a lot of barriers when it comes to providing medication but it may also be a route worth trying x x

Thanks so much Skittles. I contacted my clinic I have been with for my last 3 rounds. Last failed FET in September. And they just told me to contact my GP. Which I did think they may have helped. Maybe if I ring up and explain my concerns and that I am happy to pay as I was an nhs patient they may think I expect it for free or something. I am not getting too excited as the frer I’ve done tonight is much lighter than my previous one. But my internet cheapie is much darker the other 2 I’ve done of those. So god knows. Time will tell! And will ring my GP on Monday and see what they say. Hope you are well xxx

You also have the option of ordering blood test finger prick tests throfuh somewhere like Medichecks if you are finding it hard to get support. You can then show evidence if GP won't help. Yes I think also a route worth trying is to make it clear to your clinic that you will pay privately for their support x x
