brown spotting whilst on progynova before transfer

Hi all,

Wonder if anyone can help. I’ve been on progynova for 15 days and started cyclogest 3 days ago. Due to have my frozen transfer on Monday coming. My scan last Monday showed lining good and everything good to go. Although I will see this scan really hurt and I don’t normally have pain during those but I’m also wondering whether it was a little hard and has irritated my cervix.

Yesterday I had some brown spotting when I wiped for the first time since starting medication. So I contacted my clinic who asked me to go in straight away for a scan before they closed for weekend.

The Dr did a thorough scan and said lining all looked fine same as Mondays scan and wasn’t decreasing. She said ovaries were fine no activity etc she couldn’t see any blood anywhere in the endometrium. But when she removed the probe there was quite a lot of brown blood on it 🥴

So basically not sure what’s causing it! She said it was quite unusual for this to happen but knows it’s first time I’ve done a frozen cycle. And everything looks good on the scan.

We’ve left it as still planned for Monday as she says she can’t see a reason to cancel at the moment but I’ve got to keep an eye on the spotting and they are going to check in with me. Last night I had no more spotting and today so far has only been once when I wiped.

Has anyone else experienced this? It’s not down to the cyclogest as I’m using that rectally so shouldn’t be causing any spotting.

I’m really worrying now! Thanks so much in advance.

Hi,

I am not sure if that’s any help but I had the exact same thing happen to me this cycle. I started spotting through progynova. It started after 15 days of taking it and lasted the entire week after that, while remaining very light.

For me, because my lining didn’t grow thick enough anyways (which was never a problem on my natural cycles) my Dr said that in his opinion , I was starting to shed and we therefore canceled the transfer.

I guess it’s a possibility for you (spotting probably won’t show a lot of difference on the scan).

It could also be other things like cervix irritation (it just happens sometimes).

I would say if you have only one or two embryos, I would not risk anything not looking perfect as it might be your only chance.

Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it.

You started spotting exactly the same time as me then. It’s very odd as since it started on Friday I’ve probably had 3 occasions when wiping and that’s it so it’s so inconsistent. My lining was good last Monday and showed the same size Friday so who knows!

I do wonder if it’s cervical irritation as I do sometimes bleed with smear tests and the scan was a bit sore last Monday.

It’s so hard to know what to do for the best isn’t it! Will be interesting to see what the clinic say tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your reply x

No problem :)

Yes it could be irritation. If your lining looks perfect and your clinic is confident that’s it’s OK then I am sure it will be.

It’s so hard I agree, we question everything! If it wasn’t for IVF, we would not have paid much attention to a little spotting :)

Best of luck xxx

Thank you so much for your reply! It’s so nice to talk to someone who understands. I’ve literally worried sick since Friday.

But yes just got to put trust in our clinic to do the thing they think is right.

And so true, we look so closely at every tiny thing don’t we!

Hope you have a lovely Sunday! x

Yes absolutely - the online IVF community is much more understanding and easy to speak to than my friends and family right now - we get each other !

Have a lovely Sunday xx
