Disappointed after egg collection

I had my egg collection yesterday and since it’s our first ever IVF cycle, we were very optimistic. I’m 26 and my husband 31 - we thought our odds are good and so when the doctor told us they only collected 5 eggs yesterday, I was shocked and so disappointed. I didn’t have much symptoms from the stims other than feeling slightly bloated and I’ve been wondering whether I now need a higher dose of stims and maybe I wasn’t responding to the dose as well (I don’t know). I’m just posting on here to see if anyone is in a similar boat and hope that you don’t feel so alone. We’re off to hear how many are fertilised so fingers crossed!

Hi,

Just to reassure you, I only got 5 eggs at my last collection, 4 mature, 3 fertilised but only 1 made it to blastocyst however this led to a BFP so it really does only take 1!

It depends on your follicle count and AMH so I would say if you do any future rounds the doctors should be able to say if they think you have the potential to get more and as you say it may be altering the dosage. The first round does seem to be a bit of a learning round.

Wishing you all the best x

first ever round, 6 collected and only 1 made it to day 3. That was transferred on day 3 and now she is 3 years old. Don’t count the 5 out just yet.

Aw thank you for your reply. Lovely to know so many positive stories despite low eggs collected.

Hi. So sorry for the disapointment, but each cycle can be a learning curve. With your age an possible hormones, a bit of adjustment may be needed, let’s hope thes fertilise and progress well. Dink extra water to settle the bloat. Good luck Diane

Sometimes it could be a case of adjusting the meds (or even switching to a different one). I had much better results with Pergoveris than Gonal (not in numbers but in quality).

Thank you, yeah that’s what a lot of people have said. I’ll keep in mind for the next time!

5 eggs could become 5 embryos, so try not to be too disheartened. I am 40, I had 19 eggs and only one embryo, so it’s quality over quantity. You have age on your side, so I hope you get good news over the next few days. 🥹

Thank you so much! It’s hard not to be disheartened but I’m trying to keep positive and wait and see what happens next. Thanks for sharing your story with me ❤️

Keep going, that’s not a bad number 🍀🍀 I only got 3 eggs, one of which resulted in my son and I was 41 at the time so you definitely have age on your side. Chances are that your egg quality is good, and much better than mine so as Buttonmoon84 said, those 5 could easily become 5 embryos.

Good luck 🍀🍀 keep your spirits up xx

Hiya. Sorry to hear about your disappointment. What was your AFC Antral follicle count before taking the meds? I got no eggs from my first round in a new clinic- but I’m 10 years older than you are. I don’t know what is going on with me, but you should be ok as you’ve started much earlier and first one is always a learning curve.
