Severe pain in side following IVF pregnancy

I’ve been admitted to hospital due to intense pains in my right side and back. They come on every few hours and last for 20-30 minutes, the pain has been so bad that I’ve needed morphine. I have no bleeding.

I can’t get a scan for a few days. But the doctors are concerned about potential ectopic pregnancy, cysts, or start of a miscarriage, so are measuring my beta levels over the next 48 hours and keeping me under observation.

My question to you all, has anyone developed an ovarian cyst following a successful IVF pregnancy? I am currently 4 weeks and wondering if the stimulation drugs, increased progesterone and pregnancy could have caused a painful cyst, although I’m not sure the symptoms would align in terms of frequency of pain.

Thank you

Hi lovely yes I have pcos and my last cycle caused my full right ovary to become a cyst I also have a tube on the right side that’s clipped and still fills with fluid they both cause me pain from time to time but I had them in pregnancy and my son is 1 yr old now didn’t effect anything . I try to stay away from certain foods white bread normally kicks the pain off I don’t no why . If it’s just a cyst it could cause pain but defo won’t effect baby take care of your self lovely and I hope everything works out ok xxxx

I had this with my first embryo transfer -successful one. It was my all the stimulation drugs and my ovary was so enlarged. Hope this is the case for you

Just had a scan and confirmed both my ovaries are extremely enlarged, over 10cm. Not sure what they will suggest to reduce them.. what did you both do? discontinue progesterone pessaries?

Hey x so sorry to hear your dealing with this

Just reading this and I would definitely not stop meds without speaking to your doctor/specialist.

From my understanding there is not a lot they can do but wait for the ovaries to settle down themselves.

I hope it all resolves quickly for you 💗

I had bad pains on my side following transfer. Not really sure what caused it other than noting one of my ovaries was swollen. I have pcos so was at risk of ohss but didn't over stimulate so not sure in end up what caused it but it took several weeks to go away.

The enlarged ovary was all that could be seen on scan.

Yes it sounds like a cyst or ectopic pregnancy .You require a scan urgently as you are at risk of rupture. What is wrong with the radiology services in your area? This could be life threatening please demand for your care to be escalated.
