1st frozen embryo transfer failed. Now to try again.

Hey all,So we went for frozen embryo transfer on 28th Aug with 5bc that had defrosted perfectly and my body responded well to the HRT fet protocol. Day 9 home preg test was neg right up until bloods on day 12 which also came back neg. Feeling down, low and upset along with anger and frustration. Want to go straight on to second and input 2 embryos as we only had 3. Any 2nd time round success stories would be lovely to hear right now.

Xxx

I'm really sorry to read this. Having transfers not work can be so heartbreaking.

Just curious as to the choice of transferring 2 embryos the next round?

I don't have a second transfer success, but rather third. My first two I did full HRT fet protocols. My body responded how it was supposed to on both rounds, but I felt horrible being on all those meds and not ovulating. So for my third transfer my RE and I decided to change protocol and try a modified natural where I actually ovulated and she added lovenox injections post transfer. That's the one that worked so far (I'm 18 weeks). We did single embryo transfers for each as my RE is very resistant to transferring more than one. As a side note, the third embryo ended up splitting, so I'm pregnant with twins.

We wanted to from the beginning we don't want to leave one on its own. But we do understand the risks so that's what we are going for at the moment but it may change, is lovenox a type progesterone?

Ah that makes total sense. Lovenox is a blood thinner that helps with implantation and helps prevent miscarriage in the first 12 weeks.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

Bless you thank you how do they know if you need blood thinners or is it just something they add. X

It was more of a “kitchen sink” approach. It doesn’t hurt to try even though I didn’t have any blood clotting or early miscarriage issues.

I would like to try natural cycle but have pcos so I think that's why they choose the hrt fet x

I have pcos too and don’t ovulate on my own. We did a modified natural which means I took letrozole, light stim meds and a trigger shot to ovulate and then the transfer was timed around that (6 days later for me). It’s a little more risky in the sense that it’s harder to schedule and you have a little higher chance of the cycle being canceled if you don’t respond well to the stim meds. That’s why a lot of clinics don’t do it. Just a side note that my body felt a lot better doing the modified natural.

It's tricky isn't it sometimes I ovulate sometimes I don't i react bad to stims and when we went for egg collection I got OHSS as body had a delay reaction then went into overdrive after so they froze the 3 embryos. Always worth considering annoyingly I want to get straight back on it when I bleed from this but can't see consultant until 19th but I think I will bleed before then. Just want to know what he has planned. X

Yes - thank very cycle is different it’s so hard to know/predict!

Ah yes, that happened to me - couldn’t see my re soon enough after a bleed so they just preemptively started me on birth control to suppress. It did make the cycle a little longer (this was a hrt cycle). The modified natural actually went faster than my hrt ones.

I took 5 days of femara on cycle day 3-7 and then low dose of fsh injections day 8-14 and then a trigger shot on day 15. I started progesterone shots 2 days after trigger (just as an extra boost). The transfer happened on day 21 and I started the Lovenox injections the same day. I also took low dose aspirin the whole time. I responded well to femara and low dose fsh in the past (before ivf) so my re felt comfortable with this protocol. It sounds like a lot of injections/meds still but I felt 10 times better than hrt.
