Has anyone experienced a bladder hematoma after egg retrieval? I was in hospital for 3 days after I started passing blood clots in my urine 4 days after egg collection.
I’m not sure how to tackle this with my clinic. My transfer had to be cancelled and all embryos frozen. I know we’re given the risks before collection but what now?

I’m unclear as to exactly what you mean. Do you think that negligent practice during the retrieval caused the doctor to puncture your bladder? I do not remember being told about this as a risk, so I’m assuming it’s extremely uncommon? It depends on whether you want the hassle since you can’t change what’s happened but I think you could certainly get some legal advice regarding compensation. Really sorry you’ve been through it all! Interested to see what others think.
I’m not sure either if I’m honest but I couldn’t go ahead with my fresh transfer and will need to pay extra for a frozen transfer. At the very least I want it investigated as to how it occurred and what (if any) measures can be put in place so that it doesn’t happen again.
I’d like some acknowledgment from the clinic that this happened/ how it happened etc… it has only been a few days so maybe I will get this next time I go in.
Hi. So sorry to hear this. Most importantly your embryos are safe. You will need to let the bladder heal. Once it has, my feelings would be to request a soft cystoscopy to check your bladder has healed well before attempting a FET.obviously there’s explaining to do, and any promises put in letter or email, not word of mouth. All the best. Diane
