Post egg retrieval tiredness and bloating

I had my egg collection yesterday and feel so exhausted today and also so bloated. Feel that the pain I did have is easing off now. I’m just so worried for Ovarian Hyper Stimulation and just would like some reassurance that bloating and tiredness is normal/expected/common at this stage? I don’t recall feeling like this after my first collection…..

Totally normal, don’t worry. I had my EC on Saturday and needed the next day to rest too - the bloat is better now but not totally gone (progesterone can make you bloat too!) but all is ok. They thought I was at risk of OHSS but it all turned out fine. I’ve had two collections before and it was very similar - really tired, bloated and sore for a couple of days and then things got a bit better each day. If the bloating doesn’t get better or gets worse it’s best to contact your clinic.

Hi lovely, it's absolutely normal. I also had egg collection yesterday and still feeling sore and bloated today, but nothing that's worrying. I think I had mild/moderate OHSS on my first collection (yesterday was my third) and that was definitely a more intense type of bloat - it wasn't comfortable to stand up completely straight (I had to walk around slightly bent over) and couldn't lie down flat without getting a full feeling in my chest.

But normal bloating and tiredness is most definitely normal and an expected side effect from the procedure. Continue to drink lots of fluids and it should hopefully all resolve soon. I hope collection went well otherwise! xx

That sounds normal. I developed OHSS 5 days after egg collection despite using the agonist trigger. You know it when you have it because of the very painful spasms. My consultant advised me to drink protein shakes to help absorb the fluid that was building up and it did pass after a few days. Fingers crossed you are OK! If in doubt, keep up the protein-rich diet.

Hi LittleT. Oh dear! Your ovaries are probably still a bit active. Make sure you drink at least 3L water a day and watch your urine output stays nice and clear and lots of it. Be careful not to get constipated as poo passing sore ovaries can "ouch"!Take paracetamol for any discomfort but no anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen. Have a rest but have a walk around too to avoid any breathlessness. Hope you soon feel better. Diane
