Feeling disheartened 6/21 at day1 so far

I’m feeling really disheartened after only 6/21 made it to day1 fertilisation today.

I had my egg collected yesterday which resulted in 21 follicles, in which 14 were mature and 6 made it to fertilisation.

I know 6 is a good number but I know this will only diminish even further.

Any ideas why so many didn’t make it?

I’m 29 and have been trying for 3 years now.

This is my 3rd round of ivf (2 failed fresh and 1 FET which resulted in a miscarriage at 10 weeks ). I’ve been told I have a low amh for my age, but the reason we need to do ivf is because my husband received chemo and therefore needed to freeze his sperm before receiving treatment.

Hi Deeak, the drop in numbers at each stage can be so brutal. I had 21 eggs collected last Friday, 16 mature, ended up with 7 fertilised. In our case it is partly because of male factor infertility. We got one top grade blast from it and I had it transferred yesterday. I've seen people with similar numbers get more blasts though so I think you can't really predict what will happen, if only we could.

Just keep looking after yourself, you have done everything you can at this point. I'll keep everything crossed for you getting a good outcome x

When I was told 6 this morning I was actually happy but it dawned on me that not all 6 will make it to blastocyst 😕

Try to stay positive, 6 is still a good number and they might all make blastocysts. Even if 50% do, that’s still a good number. To lift your spirits, I only had 1 embryo which made it to day 5 and he’s now 2.5 years old and refusing to go to bed at 9pm 😂 I know the reduction in numbers is disheartening but your numbers are still good. Wishing those little eggs lots of luck and good news on day 5 🙏🙏🍀🍀

Thank you so much, you are right. It's just hard to see so many lost and with this being our 3rd collection I hoped it would definitely be our last. But I'll try to stay hopeful!

hey there! I think this is great numbers- I had 21 collected on Tuesday 9 mature and only 1 fertilised! We’ve had three rounds never had an embyro! So I’d be super pleased with your results

I'm sorry, I know I should be please but It's so hard seeing so many go isn't it 😢 did your clinic tell you why they think more didn't make it? Is your 1 okay to transfer? Best of luck to you 🤍

Something every strange with my eggs so will know if it made day three but they weren’t hopeful! Sadly IVF doesn’t seem to work for us so coming to the end of our journey. But stay strong 6 is great honestly xx

Hi Deeak, I had 10 collected, 9 mature, 7 fertilised and ended up with 6 day 5 blasts. It is a roller coaster but just keep everything crossed. I had asked why I had such a disappointing haul (I was healthy, early 30s, no known issues) and the consultant told me they didn't view it like that - quality over quantity and sometimes when they collect heaps and heaps they know they are harvesting follicles which aren't at the right stage/viable. But any follicle can give you a chance and it only takes one. So try not to focus on the ones you have lost and focus on the ones currently doing their thing. Good luck! xx
