Myo-inositol for egg quality/maturity - totally torn and worried I've messed up

Hi ladies - hope you're well as can be. Has anyone took myoinositol and saw improvements in egg quality/maturity? Following a second failed round of ICSI in early June where only 7 of 19 eggs were mature and all were visibly poor quality, my consultant asked me if I had PCOS (thought she would know😐) and said she can't recommned it and research is limited but look in to myoinositol.

Having read up on it and reading about it in It starts with the egg, I started taking it around 8 weeks ago and I've since not a period then have read a couple of horror stories about women taking it and going on to get zero eggs !! I'm due to start meds next week and EC scheduled for 25th September and I'm just so lost on whether to continue with the inositol or not.

Would appreciate any advice, thank you xx

hello! I don’t think you have done anything wrong. I haven’t done more than one egg collection for comparison but I took inofolic alpha for months ahead of my egg collection. It was recommended by a fertility Dr. I ended up with 22 mature fertilised eggs. I only ended up with 6 blastocysts BUT the consultant thinks this is because of the sperm because they all survived to day 3 and usually if it’s a problem with the egg they don’t last that long. Xx

Thank you for getting back to me - those are amazing numbers! Do you know why the dr recommended it initially? Do you have PCOS? I also saw your most recent post - eeek, congratulations 😍 wishing you a healthy pregancy. xxx

Hi,

I was recommended it because I have polycystic ovaries and it increases chances of ovulation occurring. HOWEVER I have no symptoms of PCOS and I was definitely ovulating already. We since discovered that my partner has horrendous sperm parameters. I read inofolic alpha can improve the quality of the eggs and I figured it wouldn't harm me so I took it for a while. I'm not taking it anymore but I might if I have to do another collection. I have no clue if this helped but I definitely don't think it has hindered me.

I just did another pregnancy test (different brand and not my morning wee obviously and I'm drinking like a fish so my wee is a bit diluted). I have the world's most faint line. I'm thinking that I'm probably pregnant but I think tomorrow morning I will be able to get a stronger line if I am (fingers crossed). That First Response test is undeniable at this point but it's just too early to celebrate. I can't concentrate on ANYTHING.

Okay yeah that makes sense, I think that's what I'm worried about (hindering my chances) but as you say studies have shown it can increase egg quality so hopefully I'm doing the right thing.

Wow, I bet your mind is in overdrive - hope you find some way to distract yourself until tomorrow - EVERYTHING crossed for you that it is positive in the morning, it's all sounding positive so far but I totally get the apprehension xxx

Thank you! I really don’t think you should worry but understand how that won’t stop you worrying.

Easier said than done isn’t it but I genuinely do feel better and less worried since talking to you and having a pep talk with my partner. So thank you! Hope you’re doing okay and manage to sleep tonight ahead of your test tomorrow xx

Hiya. I have been using a supplement called Inofolic (inositol and folic acid) for years before TTC. We actually ended up going down IVF route because of my Endometriosis and not my PCOS (debilitating pain every month and painful intercourse as well).

We were very very lucky that everything worked out first time and my egg quality was deemed really good. No idea of it was the Inofolic that have this good result or not but it certainly didn’t harm our chances.

We got 2 fertilised embryos at the end of our first round and I now have a 10 week little girl.

If anything I can only see it helping! Wishing you all the luck and love x

Hey, I also took Inofolic Alpha before our collection for our cycle in 2022. Husband also took Impryl and I’m not sure if it was those that contributed but we had a really good outcome. I took it for 2 months before the collection, we had 8 eggs retrieved, 7 fertilised and ended up with 5 good blasts. 1 of them is now my one year old little boy from the first transfer ❤️

Good luck and I really hope it helps!! 🙏🏼 x
