bright red blood 5 weeks IVF pregnancy

I am 5weeks pregnant today after a successful FET, yesterday night I noticed bright red blood in my pantliner, it was not a lot and after I peed and wiped I saw a very tiny clot. The rest of the night till this morning there has been no further bleeding, I’m really anxious as my first FET was positive too but I started passing heavy clots and bleeding at exactly 4 weeks 6 days and my hcg started to drop. I plan to call my clinic today but I just needed encouragement from people who had similar experience and baby was fine.

While no one can promise anything, bleeding is stupidly common. I had two big bleeds and spotting on and off for the whole first trimester (sorry this might not be helpful) and my little one is now 1 and was fine. When I was 5w around 5 days and again at just before 7w I had two large bleeds ( I was sure it was over) but all was ok and no cause ever found.

The stopping of bleeding and it not becoming heavier and crampy are good signs.

Fingers crossed you can be booked for a scan soon x

It’s so funny how common bleeding in early pregnancy is. Considering it wasn’t a lot and has since stopped I’ll keep staying positive. My early scan is for 3 weeks time but with this I hope they can move it earlier. Thank you❤️

I tested before my OTD because I’m inpatient like that and at 7DPT I tested positive - 8DPT I had quite a heavy red bleed which tailed off to brown - my clinic said implantation bleeding but I was reluctant to believe this - it actually must have been although I always thought this was a myth 😂

Then at 6 weeks I had another bleed and after a miscarriage last year I was sure in my head all was over but I went to EPAU and had a scan and a heart beat was found and a small subchorionic hematoma; the cause of the bleed.

Ive had one more episode of red blood about 8 weeks and have spotted intermittently through this pregnancy till 10 weeks ish - now 13 weeks xx

Youve got to keep hope and be positive till you find out otherwise - positivity really is key in this journey. ❤️ I hope your clinic were helpful xx

Thank you for your encouragement. There has been no new bleed so far and my clinic isn’t worried since it wasn’t a lot. They said to let them know if it persists.

I had a large and painful bleed at a similar time: 5w3d. Thought it was all over, the EPU didn't want to see me because they thought I had miscarried, so I paid for a private scan. It turned out it was a large subchorionic haematoma, which, apparently, are common with IVF pregnancies and even more common if you are taking any blood thinners. I was told to immediately stop the baby aspirin, take it easy (no walking or standing for more than 20 minutes) and the haematoma resolved itself by the 12 weeks scan. The pregnancy went well after that and I have a 10-month old. So hang in there and ask your clinic or local EPU to see you for a can. Good luck!

Thank you. I’m so happy everything turned out fine for you. There has been no new bleed since that day. My clinic isn’t worried since is wasn’t a lot of bleeding and said to avoid heavy lifting. I have since put myself on modified bed rest. I was hoping my clinic would bring my scan to an earlier date which they didn’t( My early scan is for 1st August). I may go ahead and pay for a private scan next week.

I am glad you haven't had more bleeding and that you are taking it easy. Similar to you, my clinic didn't bring the scan forward, so we went privately. I am so glad we did! All fingers crossed.

hi lovely, it’s always going to be even scarier when you’ve had a bad experience.

I bled constantly from weeks 5-8. Usually just heavy spotting or light bleeding, but I did have 3 heavy bleeds in that time also. It turned out it was a hematoma which is more common with ivf apparently. That embryo is now squirming next to me in bed at 5 months old.

Keeping everything crossed for you! 🤞🏼

Awww such a perfect ending. Congratulations. You are right my experience with my last FET really caused me to panic but I’m trying to stay positive. Thank you so much for the encouragement.

I miscarried at 6 weeks 1st time round, 2nd time I had bleeding before my test day, and then at 7 weeks and I am now 10 weeks. Like you, it was after I had gone for a wee, bright red and a clot. I was scanned and there was a heart beat. And again like you, after it happened it hadn’t happened again for the rest of the evening. Mine was super bright red and a lot of it.. I thought it was game over as I had cramps too.

My clinic told me if it happened again, to put a pad on and if the pad is filling up within 2hrs, go to my local early pregnancy unit (if it happened evenings or weekends).

I just want to reassure you that this can happen and everything can still be okay… just make sure when it does, that you rest… lots of rest.

Please update me. Will be thinking of you 🫶🏻

Aww so happy for you. So far no new bleeding. I have put myself on modified bed rest since that bleed. It doesn’t help that I caught a cold so I’ve been coughing terribly for a few days. Don’t want to take any meds so I’ve been trying pregnancy safe home remedies. Thanks for your encouragement. My early scan is booked for 1st August which is the earliest date my clinic could give. I’d be about 8 weeks then. I may just go ahead and pay for a private scan next week.

They scanned me 24hrs after my bleed and they could see it.. said it’s so common in early pregnancy and more so with IVF. With my miscarriage, once the bleeding started, it spotted every few hours until a full flow started, it didn’t disappear for hours/ all through the night.

What you’ve experienced really sounds like what I’ve had second time round… rest, lots of water and Netflix 🫶🏻

For some reassurance, until your scan, ask them for a blood test.

I’ve had a cold this time around and like you I’ve taken nothing.. I’ve drank lots of hot water with lemon x

Same with my miscarriage last FET, the bleeding was continuous for like a 3 hour period and was heavy with lots of clots. Like the blood just kept trickling out, it was scary and worse still was at midnight while we were on holiday. Back to this pregnancy My clinic offered a blood test only if the bleeding reoccurs. But I can request for it if I’m concerned however Right now I’d rather not leave the house for any where distant since my clinic is 1hr away. I feel less worried now anyway and I’ll just keep hoping there’s no new bleeding.

Hi, I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant and experienced similar early on.

On test day I got my BFP and later that evening I had brown spotting. I continued to have brown spotting almost constantly from week 4 to week 10. There were only a handful of days I wiped and there was nothing. During that time there were 3 episodes where I wiped and there was fresh red blood. I went to the EPU twice thinking it was all over. They scanned me at 8 weeks and 9 weeks and the baby was fine - wiggling away. They could see no reason for the bleed and seemed very unconcerned as they said lots of women experience blood occasionally at the beginning. After scanning me at 9 weeks they said they wouldn’t scan me again even if I had another bleed as they could see the baby was fine. I did have another red bleed after that bit didn’t get seen. Then any spotting or bleeding just stopped after 10 weeks. I did wonder if this was something to do with the placenta taking over and my hormones being more stable. But I asked my midwife and she just shrugged at me - basically no one knows. But it’s common and they aren’t concerned unless you have lots of blood and it’s getting worse and painful. Anyway, after all that early anxiety I’ve since had scans at 13 weeks and 16 weeks and the baby seems fine.

Good luck to you x

That’s so good to know. I haven’t had any new bleeding since then and no cramps as well. So funny how common bleeding in early pregnancy is. Thanks for your encouragement
