Muscle pain after PIO injection

So far I have done two PIO injections. Neither has been painful when getting the injection.

The first one bled a little and then a bruise started to form. But I’m ok with that. The pain was only the bruise.

The second one had no blood and no real bruising but the surrounding muscle gradually became super painful! So painful I couldn’t lean on it and could barely move! Is this normal and does it stop happening the more you do it? I can’t last 12 weeks (if successful) with this pain.

Any tips on how to stop this? I already warm the oil and area, massage after the injection and keep moving

Hi

Here is some advice I received from my clinic in regard the PIO -

- Warm up the vial prior, you can pop it in your bra or roll the vial back and forth in your hands. The oil is thick but warming it a little can help thin it out & make it easier to inject.

- You should ensure you relax your muscle, you can do this by lying on your side or when standing bend your knee on the side you are injecting to help relax the muscle and avoid tensing.

- Ensure you inject in the correct area. To locate the correct injection site for an intramuscular injection: split the left or right cheek into four. Then find the upper, outer quadrant.

- You can use a warm compress on the site after injecting, this can help the oil to absorb.

- Massaging the injection site for a good 5 minutes after injecting can help break up the oil & encourage absorption.

- Going for a short walk afterward can also help with soreness.

- Switch between the left and right side every time you do your injection.

I have to say though that this is a painful injection and for me, it did get progressively worse. You could see if you could switch to lubion if you're really struggling. You can also do PIO in the thigh which increases the number of sites you're using but I have to say I also found the thigh really quite painful.

Hello dear,

PIO injections are not fun 🥺 I had to take them daily for weeks and I still remember the pain.

However, here are some tips that made the injections a bit less painful for me:

- warm the vial in your hands for at least 15 mins prior to the injection

- inject slowly and make sure you’re doing it in the right spot

- once you’re done, massage the area for at least 5 minutes - I found that circular movements all around the area worked better

- keep moving the muscle

- make sure you’re injecting in a different spot every time you do it (alternate cheek if you can)

These little things won’t make a huge difference but hopefully you’ll be able to cope with the injections a bit better… PIO is painful but effective! Good luck my darling! 💙💙💙
