Worries prior to treatment

I'm sorry, its me, panicking again. Has anyones folicle count ever been incorrect? I'm only 31 and only have 7. I know it only takes one egg but I don't know whether to do a few cycles of collecting before having a transfer. My AMH is also near the bottom end of people my age.

Trying to be positive bur there's already so much sadness and disappointment with my own body.

Sorry for being so negative 😔

Morning, I’m sorry to hear this. I think it depends how many children you would ideally like to have. If you are just aiming for 1, I would probably not bother with embryo banking in your first round- if you get a.l good embryo, go for a transfer. If it’s important to you or you would like a chance to try for more than 1 then I would probably do some embryo banking if you’re able to make some embryos in the first round, and perhaps only transfer once you (hopefully) get a few in the freezer. Obviously it also depends on finances as doing multiple ivf rounds isn’t cheap. I really hope you have success xx

Did you see via Hycosy? As I honestly think it depends how good the person is undertaking the follicle count and how everything is behaving. Back in 2019 my Dr counted 6 follicles (aged 39) which they said was a bit low. I was pretty stressed about it too. But in 2023 my body produced 11 eggs of which there were about 15 follicles growing - 4 of which were just too small to retrieve from....I'd focus on your diet and supplements and make sure your eggs are as good quality as possible rather than worrying about the number - as it truly is about quality over quantity - you might only need one cycle so try not to worry about the banking issue yet xx

hello!

You have six! There is bound to be one in there that will stick! If finances allow I would probably do 1-2 cycles just in case. It’s what we did and after 3 rounds we only had 6 in total which we froze so we could concentrate on other things as IVF nearly killed the marriage! We had them PGT tested and only 4 were normal resulting in 2 pregnancies. In one of our cycles we had total fertilisation failure. So just as well as we had a few cycles to bank.

Totally up to you but don’t be sad you still have a good chance!

Sorry, me again, I would just add that I was devastated when I found out my AMH was lower than expected but still responded quite well to treatment and one thing that I was told that really helped was that age is a bigger predicting factor of success than AFC or AMH because so many more of your eggs are likely to be genetically normal than if you had the same AFC and AMH but were a few years older. Age is really on your side here. Wishing you all the best.

I had only two follicles capable of growth and undetectable AMH, and 41 years old and I got pregnant. I have a beautiful daughter. I was very on top of my lifestyle, supplements and health markers though and believe that’s what made a difference. Xx

I remember initially being told I had a low AMH and the main reassurance the Dr gave me was that age was key.

Someone at 30 will have about 70% chromosomally normal eggs, which drops to on average below 40% at age 40. So even if there aren’t many embryos created, you have a great chance of them being chromosomal normal and therefore likely to result in a healthy baby, which is ultimately better than more worse quality eggs. Quality is on your side :)
