Alcohol prior to FET

Hi ladies, I may have even asked this question before. But it’s my day 1 today and the day I’ve come on holiday 🙃 what are the chances. I have one euploid embryo I’m planning on transferring this month. I don’t have the dates yet as my clinic have not got back to me yet. But I just wondered if others would risk a drink or not prior to their FET? I’m only away for 5 nights. Has anyone had success with consuming alcohol prior to their FET? I don’t want to totally mess it up with it being my only one. ( I am having another one re tested today so could have another but not holding my breath)

I’m totally torn on how I feel about it as I kind of feel like people conceive all the time in worse states than a few drinks but then they obviously don’t have fertility issues! Trying to toe the line of balance is so hard. I bloody deserve these few days after everything I’ve been through but then I don’t want to jeopardise the outcome.

All answers welcome.

Thanks so much ladies 🤍

I’d say have the drink and enjoy your holiday , as long as it is in moderation it shouldn’t cause much damage , and you’ll probably benefit from relaxing 😂. The embryo has been made already 🤞🏼, fingers crossed it will all work for you this time !

on my successful frozen transfer I went to Austria ski holiday but I did not ski it was part after part with lots of walking in the snow and drinking beer and wine I was on medication for my frozen transfer too I did the transfer about a week or two later and it worked that was my 6th transfer and my only successful transfer she will be 6 years old end of November and she just started primary 1 today after her I tried 6 more times for sibling but it did not work so I think drinking and relaxing few weeks before transfer will not harm the embryo so enjoy yourself and relax don’t stress and don’t think about it just have fun good luck

Cut yourself some slack and enjoy a few drinks! This process is so draining, you deserve a chance to unwind. If it’s day 1 your transfer won’t be for another couple of weeks and the embryo is already ready to go. Hopefully it’ll be your last opportunity to have a tipple for 9+ months! 🤞

I had a few drinks throughout my FET process, from day 1 until about 2 days before my transfer. Not tonnes but def a nice few. The embryo is made and that's that bit done!

That transfer worked for me! I really don't think a bit of alcohol before the transfer will have much of an adverse effect unless you are really caning it!

Enjoy your holiday! 😊

You have to do what feels right to you! My husband and I really enjoy wine and I didn't stop drinking before my successful FET, although it was always in moderation. I even had a glass of red wine the day before the transfer, thinking that if it worked I wouldn't be drinking for nine months, so I should enjoy it while I could! I am now 34 weeks pregnant and everything seems to be fine :)

My clinic always told me that it was fine to drink occasionally during the treatment, even before the egg retrieval... but maybe that's because I am based in France. Their advice was basically along the lines of "IVF is stressful enough on its own, so you need to try to lead as normal life as possible between all the appointments/injections/treatments to reduce your stress levels." Of course, this advice doesn't work for everyone and sometimes trying to control every parameter might make you feel better... but it can also make you go crazy!

I’ve had 5 transfers, only last one I just lived completely normal (I was drained with giving up everything) had a good few wines (obviously up until transfer day) and it was successful. I also remember picking up my meds for a frozen transfer once and said to the nurse jokingly as it was a Friday “shame I can’t go home and have a nice wine now” she was like why not? You’re going to need it with all this going on ha.

Enjoy your holiday and enjoy a drink in the sun xx

I agree with the others, I’m having a transfer next week and going to a family party on Saturday. I’m planning on having a couple of glasses of wine, just because I haven’t drunk a single drop months before every other transfer and it hasn’t worked so (I’m on my 5th transfer - embryo number 7!) and it’s my last one. My friend got pregnant on her 6th just after Xmas and went to loads of boozy Xmas parties so I think she was more relaxed. Enjoy your holiday x

The way my clinic explained it to me, is that alcohol will only affect quality of eggs when doing an egg collection. For transfer, it won't. I always struggle with a thin lining, this FET I didn't cut out anything (alcohol/caffeine) & it was the thickest its been. Probably coz I relaxed & didn't worry what I should and shouldn't have. Don't put too much pressure on yourself and enjoy.

Thankyou for asking this question and thankyou to everyone answering for answering without judgement! I've been humming and harring as I've just completely given it up but wondering when we go away for our anniversary next month if a couple of glasses of wine would be okay . . .so thanks for your answers ladies! 😊 and also to original poster . . .that's what really grinds my gears your totally right you've got people who go mental get off their face and have a one night stand and end up pregnant but yet this just isn't fair! The same ad drug addicts 😤 but neverminf I suppose!

I stopped drinking each cycle a month or two out apart from my latest one where I drank a bit up until a couple of weeks out because I was fed up of restricting myself and not getting results. I actually started doing stuff you can’t do in pregnancy like riding horses (I fell off one the day before my transfer). The transfer I was least strict with using my “worst” embryos seems to have worked and I’m 7 weeks pregnant now 🤞🏻🤞🏻, I also picked up Covid in my two week wait and I haven’t got sick in any of my failed cycles.

your embryo is made so I would defo have a drink! There is nothing g it can affect at this point. I had a drink before my FET and even one or two in my 2WW with my son and my current pregnancy, I didnt get drunk but I was on holiday both times so had one or 2 with dinner etc. the other times I was strict and didn’t didn’t work 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m not saying the drinking helped, I’m just saying it didn’t hinder but enjoying yourself and living your life is important too and that you being happy and relaxed might well help is my opinion. Hopefully it’s your last few drinks for 9 months 🤞🏽 enjoy your holidays! Xx

Hi Booda21, I went through 5 FETs and was so strict on alcohol - not even in between cycles as I wanted to keep my weight down and was struggling with feeling ill on the drugs. I came out of one cycle and went on holiday. Just four days but vineyard tours, wine tasting, the lot. My period started during the holiday. When I got back I phoned the clinic to confirm timings and turned out they had a cancellation and could fit me in for my next FET that month... I am now 17 weeks pregnant. So I would say you are alright to have a few pre-transfer if you feel up to it!

I didn’t drink, didn’t see the point. Thought I’d do everything I could to make it a success. 👍

There’s so many good non-alcoholic drinks out there. Gets you used to 9 months of not drinking 😁

hi there 👋 I think I did. I remember taking the progesterone and thinking by the time the FET happens several days later the alcohol will be out of my blood stream. I’d definitely cut down but I was doing a gig with people I consider friends and usually on the night when we stay over we have some wine. So I joined in tbh - felt a bit guilty but nothing from the moment the fet happened all the way to week 38 where my midwife suggested it might help relax. So I say go for it, could be your last chance for a while. Just take it fairly slowly.

I hope you're having a fab holiday - you lucky thing the weather here where I live (Ireland) has been awful! In the end I decided that I would not want to look back and regret anything at all and know I had done everything I possibly could. If you think (god forbid) the transfer didn't work and you would perhaps then blame yourself then I would say don't. Personally, I don't think the odd beer or glass of wine would do you any harm and you're on holiday so that's fab that you are having a great stress free time which is massively important. I probably haven't really answered your question 🤪
