Hey everyone ,This is my first time posting though I have been a member for awhile.
I am a 41-year-old single woman on this fertility journey alone.
I started a year and a half ago because I had my second myomectomy, 1st one was at the age of 30—and my surgeon recommend that if I would like to have a baby to see about fertility treatments.
It's been a rollercoaster of a ride. I found out I had low AMH etc etc. So I got to it and went to Greece - I live in Germany where IVF for single women isn't really an option. Long story short I got 3 5-day untested embryos with the following grading : 4AA, 2 AA and 1 AA.
I have my transfer on Thursday. My lining is 11mm .. everything is looking good my doctor says. He asked me yesterday how many embryos I would like to transfer?
I was just going to go for one. as this is my first try and since I will be a single mother I wasn't so keen on the possibility of twins—the financial costs and just emotional toll. I want to make sure I can be a good mom to the best of my abilities and not sure if I could. handle twins on my own and make sure they both get want they need to thrive.
he recommends the 2 embryos 4AA and 2AA . I feel that might be throwing all my eggs in one basket. I can not afford to do another egg retrieval, and since is my first transfer I feel if something goes wrong that's it really for me. no way to adjust protocol and try again.. I am not sure what to do. My parents are like go all in , if you have twins you will figure it out. etc. Any advise
thank you

In the US I think the official guidance with good embryos is to transfer them one at a time up to age 43. If your embryo is healthy and the timing is right / womb is susceptible the likelihood of success is high enough I certainly wouldn’t risk it. I had a son by myself and am now pregnant with his sibling but I think two is a big commitment vs one and most the solo mums I know choose to have just one.
Hi. Can you transfer the 4AA on Thursday. Fingers crossed it will work, but if it unfortunately doesn’t, you can transfer the others at a later date? I’m also doing IVF alone, and not sure I could cope with twins. Wishing you the very best of luck x
I'd go with transferring one especially if you want to reduce the chance of twins. Even during the transfer, the doctor warned me it might split into 2 but she is only transferring 1 today. Good luck x.
Hi, I'm 41 I had inserted two fresh embryos back in February graded 4AA and 6AA(we were told this embryo was ahead of it's time and it is rare. ) There was really high chance of twins. Despite good embryo grades only one stick. I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant. We took that risk but my circumstances were different to yours. I felt this was right thing to do for us. But I would strongly recommend to go with your guts just do as you feel is best for you. Fingers cross it will work out for you.
Hello hun, when I looked into the research on this for myself (also embryos made age 40) it looked like there was a slightly higher cumulative chance of success transferring embryos one at a time, so that was the path that was best for me. All the best of luck
