2 Viable Embryos to Transfer - to transfer 1 or 2?

Hi Everyone - long time reader, first time poster! Last month my husband and I traveled from NYC to Madrid to have our eggs retrieved. We ended up having 11 retrieved, 5 to blastocyst and after genetic testing, 2 are approved and ready for transfer! My clinic in Madrid is open to transferring 2, however, my clinic in NYC was adamantly against this option (we only did IUI in NYC and not IVF given the cost. This recommendation was given during our IVF consultations). I really trust my clinic in Madrid, but I am worried that if we transfer 2 it will be risky. This is my first IVF and will be a FET. I am 20 days away from turning 39 and the transfer will take place in April. Has anyone else been in this situation before? If so, what did you do?

Hi Cabanagrl. I transferred 2 last time. I did get a positive result but it was a chemical pregnancy unfortunately. The time I transferred one I didn't even get that far though and was negative straight away. I was told it increases chances of success by around 10% (I’m 38) but I guess it’s all down to luck! You need to weigh up risks of twins against the positive of increased chance it will work So is really a personal choice. There’s also the quality of the embryos to consider. My clinic walked me through it all and then we made our decision. About to decide for this months natural FET whether to Go with 1 or 2 of my 3 embryos left in the freezer actually.... so interested in your replies too 😊 best of luck! Xxx

Hi Cabanagrl,

The pregnancy rates are good with PGS tested blasts, I had a fresh round recently that we got three frozen PGS blasts from and we opted for one to put back.

Whilst I’m not against having twins, it’s the added stress of a high risk pregnancy.

I’m currently 11 weeks with my single PGS embryo 😊

Good luck with whatever decision you make xx

Thank you everyone!! My DR said that both of my embryos have certain good qualities and because of that she recommends implanting 1 at a time.
