I am on the RIF protocol (3rd round) and was wondering if anyone has any experience with taking Clexane and Prednisolone? I've also been asked to take Aspirin.
Has anyone just had the Clexane injections without the Prednisolone? I read that there is a risk to the baby's growth when taking Prednisolone so I am worried about taking this.
If anyone has any success stories with just the Clexane, I would love to hear. It seems these medications are usually taken together for the RIF protocol.

my protocol included both and I’m currently 13 w5 days. I also read about baby growth and prednisone but my clinic weaning me off it quite soon after my positive result I think I stopped after 6 weeks. My previous 2 rounds did include clexane but not prednisone and were unsuccessful.
My Prednisolone dosage is 10mg and then it will increase to 20mg but I don't know how long I'll be on it yet. May I ask what other testing you had to make them add Prednisolone into your protocol? Did you take Aspirin as well? Thanks for your reply, it's good to hear a positive outcome.
Hi there, are you able to tell me the Dr or clinic that has prescribed prednisolone? I have RIF and at 15 miscarriages now during implantation. My NHS Dr won't prescribe it. Thanks
I used a clinic is Spain who prescribed the prednisolone. Instituto Bernabeu. You could probably get it in the uk too. I think you may have to switch to private. Xx
I’ve just had transfer number 7. I’m on clexane and 10mg prednisolone. My clinic only wanted that low a dose so less risk to the embryo. Very early days as OTD today and it’s BFP!
Hi, my daughter was on both medications and aspirin, and her round was successful, and the only concern raised was one baby was smaller than the other, (she trf two embroys) babies have arrived and they are all ok and perfect x
I didnt have RIF, just had one failed natural cycle transfer (without blood thinners) before our successful medicated transfer (with baby aspirin and Clexane 20ml plus HRT) and I'm 13w+5 today. Clexane, to help with implantation and prevent early pregnancy loss, was literally a pain and stopped after the 12 week benchmark.
Prednisolone was an option but not warranted.
I dont know if you've tested for any autoimmunity markers but I had pNK cellw a higher than reference range last March and elevated anti-TPO but that's when I had UTI and ureaplasma, which was treated with antibiotics and thyroid antibodies calmed down after going gluten free - so no more apparent justifications for steroid.
I had prednisolone till 16 weeks, clexane till birth (or in fact 6 weeks post) and aspirin to 36 weeks plus other drugs.
I hadn’t heard that it could make baby small- had read a few other things that had been mostly debunked.
As it happens my baby was/is tiny (born 5lb4oz at 37 weeks now 7 weeks old and 8lb) but completely healthy, and more importantly exists in this world which he may well not have done without those drugs- like our previous embryos 😞
No idea if his size is in any way related to the steroids (my husband and I are short) but many many women have been successful with them and I’m sure sizes vary.
I was on 20mg steroids and clexane and had no issues at all with pregnancy or my baby. He was born at 38+6 and weighed 6lb 7oz (i'm also petite so if he was big it would have been a surprise!)
hello! I am on the same medication as you. 25g of steroids )to be weaned off gradually from 12 weeks. No issues except I can eat a horse , erratic sleep during the first week weeks but this settled. The clexane is one of the hardest injections to give as the needle it’s packed in is quite thick and I can hear it tear my skin as It’s pierces the skin plus the sting! I got a positive on both cycles with this protocol, I did intralipids too! One on the day of transfer and one At 6 weeks and have another on 2 weeks time. Best of luck lovely! Xx
I am on NHS. I only had one FET so far and it resulted in implantation failure. I was on Clexane and aspirin because of a genetic mutation that predisposes me towards blood clotting. Next FET will also be Clexane and Aspirin, but they will add progesterone injections (Lubion). I think she mostly added the Lubion because I was pressing her to do something different, but they seem to be a bit better absorbed than the progesterone ovules. I asked about adding steroids and the consultant said it can indeed be risky, and there is not a lot of evidence to back it up, but after a few failures they get more adventurous and will try anything that has a chance to work.
