Going on holiday post FET

I am just working out potential dates.

If we transfer our FET on my next cycle, there is a chance we would be transferring a couple of days before we fly to Gran Canaria for a 2 week holiday.

Im thinking the positive side of this, is i wont be working and it will be lovely being on holiday, plus it will make the TWW a lot easier...

BUT

Is it safe? Could i get into the pool for a dip? Is a 4.5 hour flight ok?

Anybody done the same or been advised on similar? If we need to, i can postpone another cycle, but we are sooooo keen to get moving.

Hi lovely,

What a brilliant plan! I would say that the benefits far outweigh the negatives...

The only issue may be the pool - my clinic always say to avoid swimming in the 2ww to avoid any possible infections.

Maybe check with them?

I thought that too, but tbh, I’m not much of a pool girl anyway… I like dangling my legs in but that’s it. Our daughter will turn 3 on hols & she likes the pool (sometimes if it’s not too cold) but I could stick to the baby pool & not have my tummy in the water.

I’m assuming the flight & temp is ok. x

I mean lots of people travel abroad to Spain etc for transfers - flying immediately after and obviously being in hot places. x

So true!

If it lines up I might just do it… why wait!

I think that it’s a wonderful plan! I went to NY for a week after my FET and I didn’t have time to think about the 2WW or give that much importance to every symptom like I did in my first transfer. The FET didn’t work for me, but the first transfer where I just sat at home didn’t either, so if it will help you cope with the whole thing better, I’d say do it!

And I don’t think that it’s essential to be near the clinic in the 2+ weeks after transfer, if you’re worried about that at all. If positive, the blood tests can wait, and if negative, it either sorts itself out or it needs to be further along to require procedures, and that’s way past the 2WW.

Flight-wise, I doubt it’s an issue but don’t think anyone truly knows. And pool-wise, I think it tends to be recommended among the lighter forms of exercise you can continue doing during the 2WW? It truly depends on what you feel comfortable with. Might get weird if you’re using progesterone pessaries though, so maybe try using those the other way during swimming.

Good luck! Xx

It's a great idea, i went to Greece 3 days after a fresh transfer, i am now 27 weeks pregnant from it. I think that it actually helped with the implantation 😄

But yes, my doctor advised me not to swim though.

I think it’s a great plan! But definitely don’t get your lady parts in the pool. The infection side of things is about your cervix having been poked and you don’t want oool water in there causing an infection. Also if you’re on the progesterone pessaries you won’t want to be in the water anyway 🙈

But the holiday thing is perfect. My third transfer i planned to be over Christmas and new year. It was the perfect distraction being away and busy seeing family and friends. I think it’s just good to be distracted and not sat at home out at work. It was my only successful transfer!

wishing you all the sticky luck and a great holiday xx

sounds absolutely perfect 👌🏻 a work colleague and his wife just went to Lanzarote after their transfer a few months ago and it worked! The clinic told them to go ahead with their holiday plans so I don’t there would be an issue. Just no hot tubs and take lots of breaks in the shade/ stay hydrated and you will be fine, especially at this time of year it’s not too hot anyways. Best of luck to you! Xx

Also, it’s best to avoid sunbathing not to overheat. Gran Canaria is not that hot anyway, the best of luck to you !

I would also suggest that you buy flight socks to help with circulation. You can pick them up from boots. Perhaps also consider brushing your teeth with bottle water to avoid risk of getting an upset tummy. Good luck with your transfer!

hi hope your okay I'm doing the same transferring before I fly. I'm a bit anxious but if it's meant to be , it'll be. I've got myself some flight compression socks for the flight, and I'm on inhixa which is a blood thinner. It maybe worthwhile timing your meds whilst abroad to ensure minimum change. Good luck :) I think a break sounds amazing!
