Hi, I'm just writing to have a little rant. I have a "privilege" to compare fertility treatment price increase year by year. For our FETs with included meds, fees etc we went from 2022 - £2097, through 2023 - £2247, and with our newest quote for 2024 - £2427... Sometimes I feel really bitter that we have to pay thousands of pounds for a chance which might not be even successful... but at the same time we still have some chance that it will work.
I just feel frustrated

My clinic’s prices have gone through the roof too! Really unfair. sometimes you really do feel like it’s a money making racket but one we have no choice but to pay for. X
I'm just about to start a medicated FET the treatment is going to cost £2595 without medication which they've estimated to be around £800, and I've already spent close to £16000 on previous rounds of IVF. I know people that have had treatment abroad for a fraction of the price I've paid that's just not an option for us. It's so frustrating and I do think it is a money making racket in this country!
I totally understand this but I promise you it is so much easier if you just purchase insurance that covers 100% IVF cycles mind covered 100% with a deductible of only US$6000 which was awesome compared to US$20,000 if I did not have insurance it covered unlimited rounds per year I was with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO. Look into that one but depending on where you are located, you might have a different insurance provider once I was pregnant the third month I no longer paid for the insurance I canceled the policy. It was only US$300 per month. Good luck honey.
Hi Mk919, I'm in the UK and as far as I know, we don't have any Insurance which would cover IVF costs... but it would be great if they could 😅 And thank you - with each transfer we hope - it's the last one and that it will work! Well we will see how it will go 🙏
I had a look at how much my last FET cost (August 2023) and it was £1,400 plus meds. The meds could be quite cheap if they're just progynova and progesterone pessaries (you may also be able to get them on the NHS via your GP) and it was the lubion that was pricey. So it may be worth shopping around?
Which clinic did you use? The cost above is already with meds, HFEA fee and transfer cost, transfer itself cost this year £2195, for meds this time it's £147, and the HFEA fee is £85(it went up from £80 since my transfer in January), in previous years FET without meds and feel, was in 2023 - £2000, in 2022 £1750, and in 2021 - £1600.I asked my GP once if they could support and prescribe my fertility meds and they were very snappy about it saying that I should ask my clinic to prescribe them, so no support from my GP for me... :/ they were the same about some blood tests etc
That was a clinic in Bristol and was similar to another we used that was part NHS part private (although I really would be cautious about that sort as my experience has been NHS service, delays and inflexibility but foe the same cost as private, maybe even more if you do insurance packages and cover multiple rounds). Sorry about the GP - I think it's more often they say no, but I also used a pharmacy as a big supermarket and that was a lot cheaper than the clinic's own provider.
hi I hope you’re well , our last FET Jan 24 was £1,200 including meds , we paid £88 for Lubion injections. This is nhs privately funded , but I’ve been looking recently at private and they are not hugely different. I’m based in Birmingham
What do you think about an NHS privately funded clinic? One in my region didn't have a good opinion and the cost was just over the roof, this is why we went with the private clinic in Birmingham it had a better opinion and it was over half cheaper than NHS private, now NHS has a better price for FET but I don't think I can use my frozen embryos from a clinic in Bham in NHS clinic?
Hi Hopewhite , I’m based in Birmingham and wondering what clinic you’re at with those prices? The one I am using has an estimated cost of over £2700 for a FET with meds x
mines gone up to 2600 + 800 meds 😬😟 it’s disgusting. Actually considering going abroad - although I like my clinic, it just doesn’t seem feasible!! Wishing you luck xxx
I know it's awful 😬 I was thinking about going to Poland but I have still 4 frozen embryos and I don't think I can take them with me 😅 and paying for a full cycle abroad doesn't seem like a cost-wise decision or different for just another FET in UK. I wish you luck!
Hiya, could you request to get your meds somewhere else? Asda pharmacy is so much cheaper. You just have to phone beforehand to check they have it in and if not, they will order it. Morrisons pharmacy also stock some too.
Only option given by clinic is if my GP would write me a prescription, and I already know that my GP won't do it. Or to pay £80 for private prescription from clinic and then pay in pharmacy for meds
