Hi all, happy new year to you all, hope everyone's doing ok ❤️
I'm wondering how long people were instructed to stay on steroids?
We were lucky enough to get our first ever BFP on our first donor egg transfer before Christmas. I have several autoimmune issues so was put on steroids: 10mg a day from day 1, then 20mg starting the night before transfer for five days, then back to 10mg until 6 week viability scan, now I've been told to reduce to 5mg for 7 days before stopping.
I've heard many people stay on them until 12 weeks and having a bit of a wobble now about stopping this early. What have your protocols been?
We have no previous miscarriage history as we never made it to transfer with my own eggs.
Thanks in advance for your help x

Hi Kayray, I had the exact same steroids amount as you 10mg, upped to 20mg temporarily, back to 10mg until my scan at 7 weeks. I’m now on 5mg for a week and then just two tablets in total next week and then nothing! Xx
I was on 20mg and after my 8.5 week scan, the Dr wanted me to start weaning. I worked out that I would be off them by 12 weeks so I spoke to him and ended up completely off them around wk14 as I wanted to get to my 12 week scan and be on at least 15mg. As the point of taking them was to prevent miscarriage so it did not make sense to me that before 12wks I would be off them.
I also believe that they probably helped with morning sickness, as I barely had any and I read research that sometimes steroids are prescribed when you have really bad sickness.
I’ve been on 20mg since one week before transfer and all the way till week 7, then 15mg for week 8, then 10 for week 9, then 5 for week 10 and then stop at 11 weeks. As you can see, every protocol is slightly different
I was on 10 until transfer then 20 until 10 weeks when start weaning. I’ve a history of miscarriage and immune issues. I had same protocol with my little boy with no issues and now 6 weeks with my last embryo xx
Congratulations on your BFP! I have a history of autoimmune disease too, but also a history of early miscarriages. I will be on 20 mg from 5 days before transfer until 12 weeks, but I’ve also been prescribed other immune suppressants for a couple of months before transfer, as my immune system is very over-active on blood tests.
