Follicle count before 2nd IVF - worried!

We’re about to embark on our 2nd ivf cycle in Greece (with steroid & clexane included this time after 3 early losses & issues detected)Sperm DNA frag also a factor.

I’ve had a normal AMH and follicle count has never been something highlighted and a quick scan in Greece in October didn’t highlight any issues, I’m 38. Last round 10 eggs collected, 10 embryos, 6 made day 3, 2 made day 5.

However I had a day 2 scan today, a few months before we begin IVF, so my consultant can plan our treatment.

The sonographer said everything looked normal with size, shape, lining, volume etc and she counted 2 follicles on each ovary (she said they don’t include anything less than 5mm). I’m really panicked as this is really low, is this a true AFC if she didn’t count everything? When I Google it (yessss I know I shouldn’t) this is classed as really low.

I’ve emailed all this to my clinic and will hear from them tomorrow, I just can’t help but feel really worried and dreading that this may be another challenge for us. Any help or experience in this area would be much appreciated, my knowledge/understanding is limited 🫣

hi, the AFC can vary each cycle. Plus, I had 2 scans 1 day apart (double booked but went anyway) and 2 ultrasonographers came up with different numbers. I know it’s an anxious time and I was really fixated by numbers but my son came from my lowest egg collection yield (only 3 eggs) following a failed cycle where they collected 9 eggs.

See what your clinic say tomorrow and I hope they give you some peace of mind xx

Thank you so much Kitkat for taking the time to reply. I just assumed she should have counted all of them not just over 5mm to give my clinic a full overview, as when I do begin stims, they all have potential. But it’s so difficult when my knowledge is limited and each place has there own protocols, you just feel lost trying to interpret it all 🤯

hi dear please don’t stress and add some multivitamin and definitely ubiquinol 600mg solgar they definitely helps me a lot ! So you take them as well. Also take omaga 3 and prantal multivitamin too. They really help you. For egg quality.

And for DNA fragmentations of your partner takes alpha lipoid acid 600mg empty stomach and NAC 600mg omaga 3 high dose vitamin c proxeed men as well they all helps me a lot .

Thanks so much Nabsal, I take Ovum and the Inessa advanced multivitamin and I’ll definitely add in the omega.

My clinic messaged me to say don’t stress also, they look for quality not quantity. Just such a lot of factors to try & balance and control (even though most of them are uncontrollable) 🤣
