Three Follicles - is this rubbish?

First ever round of IVF (ICSI) - Initial scan revealed I had 10 follicles. I am 39.

After 1 week of medication I have had another scan today (Friday) and looks like there are 3 follicles that have responded (18cm I think but cant be sure)

**Medication is - Meriofert taking 4 vials a day (1 week so far) Day two of Fryemadel**

Seems a bit disappointing? I gather one follicle makes one egg but not guaranteed. Can more follicles grow at this stage? I took the second injection to stop me ovulating two days ago.

I have another scan Monday but I cant stop thinking about it and didn’t ask enough questions.

Any experiences shared would be great :) thank you.

Hi there, Don’t worry it’s a stressful process and sometimes I think drs don’t realise we’re not taking everything in as we’re too busy worrying!

Could it be that you have 3 big follicles and the other 7 are smaller? It may mean that they will just go for those 3 ones but hopefully the other ones have grown abit more so they might be in the running?

Hopefully at your next scan they can show you a screen where they plot your follicles showing you what they will aim to retrieve. Xx

Yes I think three have responded - Monday will tell more I guess. Will any more get bigger now even if I’ve taken the meds to pause the ovulation? I asked if my dose should be increased and was told only a senior dr could make that decision hmmmmm. This was a doctor, not a nurse.

From what others have said hopefully so, but also as you know you only need that one good egg.✨ sometimes you can have lots of embryos but the quality isn’t there. Personally I think the lower/average dose the better for quality… Keeping everything crossed for you . Xx

I had five both rounds, but they were all mature. It’s a bit disappointing but I’m not sure there’s anything that can be done. Hopefully because there’s lower numbers they’ll all be mature and your fertilisation rates will be higher 🤞

Hey, thanks so much for your reply. I guess it’s just the luck of the draw isn’t it. I guess they only need one good one ? Where are you you at now with your fertility ‘journey’?

They only need one good one!! I almost don’t want to tell you about our journey because it’s not very hopeful…. All the eggs fertilised both times but we didn’t get any blastocysts. The clinic are very confused about it though (mainly because I have been pregnant naturally) and I understand it is very, very rare! My husband has low motility and morphology and I have lupus which flares massively during ivf so I think that’s the main issue for us. I hope your three all keep doing well and you get your baby xx

hi, try not to worry too much about the measurements, often the smaller ones catch up and keep growing even after the trigger injection. 3 out of my 4 egg collections, all follicles had eggs and the one where they found some empty follicles, I had 3 eggs collected and had a baby boy from this round. So, 3 mature follicles is fine and I would hope that some of the smaller ones might catch up. Good luck xx

More follicles can pop up right until egg retrieval, the drugs are still stimulating. It did for me, I thought I was growing 2 and then there were 4 mature on collection day. However, it really us about quality not quantity. Hope it goes well, baby dust x
