I started my first IVF cycle last Thursday injecting myself with two vials of Meriofert. I had my first scan on Monday and the nurse said there wasn’t much follicle growth, therefore my dose of Merifert was increased to 3 vials. I had another scan today and again the nurse said there wasn’t much follicle growth, however my womb lining had thickened from Monday. I’ve been told to stay on the current dose then another scan this Friday. The nurse said they might have to abandon this cycle and start next month on an increased dose if my follicles have still not grown. Anybody else been in a similar situation? Would I have to look at donor eggs instead of using my own if my follicles don’t grow?
Hey. Sorry to hear this - I had similar and remember being so disheartened when I arrived for first scan and there was basically nothing. This was on a Friday and the following Monday still nothing. They then increases my dosage and by Wednesday it was much better and went on to be fine. It’s slightly different of course but I would say definitely don’t lose hope or let it get you too down. One thing I have learnt from IVF is you never really know what’s round the corner and sometimes negatives or set backs can lead to better things. Do you know if they started you in a relatively high dose (eg if you had high AMH so they didn’t want to risk over stimulating). Keeping my fingers crossed for you. IVF is a bit trial and error for all parties involved so I would probably think it would be too early to worry about Donor eggs - especially if they had advised that it may be that you try on a higher dose next time.
Hang in there - I know the thought of waiting even longer is so hard but I believe it’s too early to rule your own eggs out and it may all be fine.
Good luck on Friday fingers and toes crossed for you x
Thanks for replying! As far as I know I’m not at risk as to what you have mentioned above and I started a low dose which they have increased now so hopefully it will work. My other worry is that I’ve only got one ovary but the consultant said I’ve still got a good chance..he said it’s all about quality of eggs not quantity 😂just hope I get some follicles growing by Friday...
Yes definitely. There have been lots of success stories with only one ovary. It is absolutely about quality over quantity and even saying that you could get a good quantity too from the one ovary. I’m sure they will be growing. I personally am convinced a piece of Lindt chocolate after each jab works wonders hehe good luck
If you read my posts from a few weeks ago this happened to me on the first 3 progress scans. But with the lining thickening it does show you are responding a bit. I was already in the max dose of stims. They picked up a few scans later x
I’d say they just got your meds wrong and better to pause than go through egg collection etc for zero reason. Mine started off like that with 4 tiny then 5 then nearly 6 on final scan and it turned out ok. Trust what they tell you as they know this journey so well. It’s so annoying but twists and turns are a normal part of the process. It’s annoying but it will hopefully be better the next time 💐💐💐💐🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
