I am due to start my first IVF cycle tomorrow. Unfortunately the clinic have told me the wrong protocol 4 times and now I'm anxious the latest one is also a mistake.
What I want to know is if it is normal not to have a scan until day 10 of your cycle? The last nurse I spoke to insisted it was right - but given all the mistakes and that I can't speak to the doctor, I'm not really filled with confidence.
Hi, I’ve just recently had my first IVF cycle. I had my baseline scan on Day 2. Next scan on Day 5. I think the next one was Day 8, then Day 10, then Day 12 x
antonogist started on my day 6 and they saw me on day 7, then next scan was day 10, day 12 and egg collection done on day 14. But this depends on your body. It will not be same for everyone.
I definitely had scans before day ten. They had changed my meds by this point upping them and downing them as needed. I was private though not sure if you are nhs xxx
Hi, it really depends on your protocol. I know that on my short protocols I've been scanned between cycle day 2-3. If you have concerns please avoid calling and send an email instead so that you have a written record of the conversation/instructions x
My clinic dropped their day 2 baseline scan about a year ago too and now does the first one around day 8-11. I had a cycle cancelled at baseline scan before so I’d always be pretty anxious by day 10! I think they stopped them to catch up on the backlog post covid (NHS clinic)
thanks for the comments all. Solly-44 oh that’s interesting. I am a private patient but the clinic also does NHS. Possibly it is some kind of cost saving/backlog clearing process. My clinic doesn’t do baseline scans either - it just seems to be a single scan on day 10. For what kind of reasons could a cycle get cancelled at baseline?
Hidden top tip - I’ve followed up with an email asking for clarification so it’s all written down now.

That's brilliant. Now you have a written record. My clinic actually encourages patients to email as they cannot always respond to every single phone enquiry which is handled by fertility admin team.
I had a short protocol too and our scan was day 9. But I did have a baseline scan 4-6 weeks before cycle start. It was to check no cysts etc I think. We had success on this cycle with only one scan during stims.
We are just about to start planning timelines for a frozen transfer, and again I am having baseline scans. I had a cyst on my first - they said it is likely to resolve on its own, but we are repeating the scan to check prior to starting. But this may also be based on my history of uterine fibroids and myomectomy surgery of course. This time we are private.
Thanks for sharing your info and l wish you the best wherever you are in your treatment. Yes, I am going to complain because they sent me the wrong protocol 4 times in the end with the 5th one being right apparently. Still no baseline scan though just 1 scan on day 9 now. Don't want to start a formal complaint just yet because as you say, this is stressful enough!
Hey - thanks for the reply and sharing your schedule. Clinic says I'm on an unusual protocol - so there's no down reg, no baseline scans, and no scan required until a fixed day -- so I guess that must by why my protocol seems very different to others. Best of luck with your treatments
