Ivf at 39

HiSo I started seeing about fertility treatment 3 years ago, lost over 8 stone in process. Had 3 goes of iui which all failed. Xray showed blocked fallopian tube so have been moved onto ivf. Had prostap injection at beginning of April, been having daily injections of ovaleap, due for scan on Wednesday and if all goes well will be having egg retrieval Friday. I so long for a baby and being 40 later on in the year kinda limits my attempts on ivf. Just wondering if there's anyone on here who went through ivf at 39 and had a first time success?

Also did you feel bloated, tired, headachey and get tight stomach during the process of doing injections?

Good luck !! 💪💫🍀

I didn’t have success first time , but wanted to say that yes, feeling bloated, tired and headachy is totally normal during stims - it’s not the most pleasant of feelings, but I never had any more serious side effects.

I’m 40, 11.5 wks pregnant with my 6th transfer. Had 2 previous miscarriages. So it is possible! I know it feels like we’re ancient but it only takes 1. Congrats on the weight loss, that is really impressive! Best of luck xxx

Hey there! I did IVF at 39. I have to admit I didn’t have the issues you have, but assuming they can collect the eggs easily I don’t see why it should be any different if your womb is all good. Due to covid and other complications I didn’t get my first FET until July when I was 41. This was a top grade embryo and I did a full medicated cycle. This one didn’t work (and luckily I had 2 more embryos in the freezer). And 2 months later I switched up to a naturally modified cycle and also did acupuncture, changed to naturally occurring folic acid, lost a tiny bit of weight on low carb and fantastically this one worked for me. In terms of when I was 39 and the eggs collected they collected 10 and 9 fertilised, 5 made it to day 3 and 3 made it to day 5. So I think it’s not necessarily down to age but age for that person as this can just vary so much person to person. I managed well on the stim drugs but it’s really normal to have all those symptoms. Good luck! Xx

I had a first time success at 39 and turned 40 two weeks after my daughter was born.

I then tried for a sibling starting last year November and lost three embryos and am now 8 weeks pregnant and sitting with EVERYTHING crossed

Wishing you all the best with your journey!

Oh and yes I felt all of the above. I struggled to sit down and stand up the day before retrieval!

p.s. I am now 43 and if all goes ok, will be 44 when I have my second!

Over the moon to read all your comments! Far too many stories out there going on about reduced pregnancies in those approaching 40, and low percentages of it working. But you have all beaten the odds and got ur babies. So pleased for you, as got there in end x

Hey, was successful on my first try at 38 and had another baby naturally at 39. Had 9 eggs retrieved, 6 fertilzed, transfered 2 at 3 days and still have 3 good quality embryos left. So don't allow the negative stories weigh yoj down. Keep those hopes high and prepare yourself for it

Most importantly, keep taking your supplements to boost the egg quality.

I did mild ivf with only 6 days of stums.

I wish you all the best in your journey. xx

So only have 5 good sized follicles! Hoping that eggs are mature and are strong enough to be taken out and survive
