Confused about IVF appointments

Hi everyone. I have PCOS so my periods are irregular. I've done clomid and IUIs with no success and am waiting to start NHS IVF. I've had my first 2 appointments (to provide samples for various tests and then to get the results of those tests). I'm confused about the next stage...

I was told to call with my next period to book the next appointment which would be to do more tests (virology and hormones). I explained my periods are irregular so could be months and asked could I get provera to induce the period (had to do that for previous treatments). But they've just given me an appointment for the virology and hormone tests a random day in 2 weeks instead.

Does anyone know why this is possible? Why would they originally ask for the appointment to be on day1 of period but now its OK to go ahead on a random day when I won't have my period? Has anyone else had this appointment when they weren't on their period?

Thanks for any help! X

Yes I've had that. (Also PO and irregular!) The time they neeeeeeded to be on a particular day was only the cycle of treatment. So if this is to help plan with treatment and virology then no problem on a different day. Some clinics have given me drugs to induces period for starting ivf. Another said they wouldn't and if just have to wait. For those tests though it'll be fine. Virology can be any time. The hormone levels will help them know where you are in your cycle. If they want to bring your period on some medications can only be taken within certain phases, so they may check that. I imagine they will later bring you back in on day 2/3. Do not fret! Sounds like it's all moving well! Good luck x

virology doesn’t need to be a particular day really, my clinic you phone with period and they book you in for virology day 21 but they are mostly just checking that the following month they also have space for you for the actual stims (as they will roughly know when your cycle is from this one) the virology doesn’t need to be done then and actually doesn’t need to be done at all if it’s still in date form last time so it won’t affect your actual cycle in anyway. They’ve obviously decided as your periods are irregular that it won’t help their planning anyways to have you wait for a period and then do virology. I would discuss the induction of the period again at your appointment xx

Thank you! That makes sense. I just hope these irregular periods don't delay things even further, everything feels like it's taking so long, I'd hate to be left hanging for months waiting on a period 😞
