I had my follow up appointment yesterday to discuss my failed ICSI and I’ve come away so confused.
The doctor told me my eggs were of a good quality I had a good number for my AMH level (4.1) which was all very reassuring. However then I was told that the chances of getting that many again (8 eggs) were slim and that I should consider using an egg donor. This was only my first round so I was happy with what I had produced and didn’t want to consider that right now and I’m feeling completely overwhelmed with his response. Has anyone had any luck with low AMH? If so what meds were you on? How many eggs did you produce?
As well as all that I explained I had a period but it was very light which I wasn’t expecting. He said it was very strange and that I should test again, I have and again it’s negative. Now I’m wondering if that’s going to cause me problems with starting my next round. Again has anyone else had this?
I just need some advise and reassurance that all is not lost after just one try 😔

Hiey, so sorry to hear this round didn't work out. I get a bit confused about the amh levels. Is the 4.1 you mention p/mol? I wonder if they can do a blood test to double check it's negative?
I don't have any experience of this so can't help too much with practical advice but we're all here for you and hopefully others may be able to provide more insight xx
Hi, Yeah it’s 4.1 p/mol which is low I know but still I’ve heard of ladies falling pregnant with less so that’s why I was surprised at his response so early in my treatment.
I’ve emailed the nurse this morning to ask for a blood test to confirm it’s a definite negative, let’s see what they say 😕
Yeah ive heard of others conceiving with a very low amh so fingers crossed you will too! I agree it seems very early to suggest doner eggs!
Fingers crossed for you xx
Sorry to hear of your BFN truly awful. I haven’t been through the IVF process but I do have a low AMH. It was 5 when I was 32, god knows how low it is now I’m 37!!!! However it did not stop from conceiving, I’m nearly 32 weeks pregnant! I hope that can give you some hope🙂 Ladies can fall with low AMH. Some ladies will take DHEA to boost egg quality & there is a great book called it starts with an egg. It’s quality over quantity I say 😘 if your eggs are good quality as he says they are is keep going with your own eggs. Sometimes it’s a numbers game & even healthy young couples can take a year or so to conceive. Wishing you the best xoxo
Hey, when I was doing own egg treatment at the age of 38/39 AMH of 7.19. We got 6 eggs, 6 eggs and 9 eggs. Our first cycle was a disaster as we had nothing to transfer. Next we got 2x 5day early blastocysts and from our last 9 eggs we got 1 5 day blastocysts. Due the fact that most of my embryos were dropping away after around day 3 they blamed it on my egg quality - not sure how many blastocysts you got or if any to freeze as you didnt say. There is no test for egg quality to get definitive proof as and mine looked fine under the microscope too. I was a bit peeved as its not what anyone wants to hear. We did go onto DE abroad and it turns out the Dr was probably right as we got 6 top quality blastocysts out of 8 eggs collected. Its a hard choice to make to move forward so I guess what Im saying is you need to be sure, I had a few cycles with my own and I took DHEA on my cycle 2 and 3. I feel this helped with egg quality and it might be worth a shot if you decide to try an own egg cycle again. Perhaps you should ask to speak to the clinic again to find out why they suggested DE? Our NHS consultant said that with my OE we probably had around a 5% chance of success to to our history. My OH has a very low sperm count so almost no chance of us conceiving naturally.xx
We didn’t have any to freeze, of my 8, 6 were mature and 4 fertilised but one was abnormal so of the three they put 2 in on day three transfer as they were slowing down and the third one didn’t progress any further.
I don’t think he knew we had the package of 3 all paid for already so maybe he was just trying to save us the time and money.
I’m taking DHEA, vitafem and coq10 among other vitamins, no caffeine, alcohol, healthy diet etc.
I’m just going to keep trying with my own the next two rounds.
Im think you're right, the embryologist doesnt know you have paid for 3 cycles so that sounds sensible! it may well be that he suspects as in our case that poor embryo development is due to egg quality. Sounds like you're taking all the right things to improve the quality of your eggs though. I think you have to be ready to make the switch to DE as and when you have exhausted your options as are ready to consider next steps! All the best with your next cycles.xx
I am sorry to know about your BFN. Just dont lose hope. If you think you are not ready for donor egg then go for it. Visit another doctor someone who is experienced. Ask them to help you out, tell them your situation properly and then let them analyze it all for you. The second opinion at times can be very helpful. Good luck to you. Sending baby dust your way.
