First appointment with consultant for IVF

Hi Ladies,

I’ve been too nervous to post on here until now, but here goes! It’s so nice to have a community of other people going through the thing as I feel very alone.

Husband and I will have been trying to conceive for 2 years in July and following test results have just been recommended for ivf by Hospital. This is progress on our journey to conceive but is

not great timing as my sister has just had her second baby and fell pregnant without trying and although I love my new niece this has been very hard.

We just received a letter advising that we have a 2 hour apt with the consultant soon at the assisted conception unit. Typically with most hospital letters it doesn’t state what will happen, if it’s just a discussion or more tests for me? It just says pre-assessment. Has anyone had this initial apt and can shed any light or share their experience?

Hi! I haven't quite got to that point so can't give you any advice, but wanted to say hello.

I'm still a bit nervous about posting on here as we are in the very early stages of investigations and it's all a bit scary, but there is so much support and love on what does often feel like a very lonely journey.

I'm sure lots of people will be able to tell you what the apt might involve, and wishing you all the luck in the world as you go forward.

Hi E8989, no not yet, we got two letters in the post today, one with the date of the pre assessment apt at the acu and then one re (yet more lol) blood tests required so they can confirm our funding

Ahh that’s great you are getting the ball rolling only reason I ask is the 2 hour app is usually your implications meeting where the nurse shows you

Does anyone else feel like a human pin cushion whilst trying to conceive?!!

Well done on making the move. It’s a big step and I remember feeling quite daunted by it. It might depend on your clinic, but for me it involved a vaginal ultrasound with the sonographer. I had had most blood tests done already so they used those results but they also needed to do a blood test for my amh level. The rest of the time was a discussion with the consultant. Good luck xxx

Hi, welcome to the forum. We are self funding so might be different but our first appointment involved a lot of talking through our history and a internal scan for me. Wishing you all the luck in the world and hope you get confirmation of your funding soon xx
