Egg collection advice

Hello all,

Just wanted to post to see if anyone’s gone through a similar thing. I’m due for endo surgery on the nhs on Thursday (which happens to also be my 33rd bday) for removal of any blocked tubes. I have stage 4 endo and for years it was just in my bowel but it’s now moved to my left tube (not sure if it’s in my right but could well be. They’re doing the tube diagnostics whilst I’m under and removing them if blocked). Due to the upcoming my endo surgery, they referred me for an egg collection with the aim to freeze some embryos pre surgery. It was a mad rush and they started the egg collection on day 9 of my cycle saying this was fine and I had 13 days of stims and egg collection Monday. I have a good amh of 37 and every scan was being told that I had 15 follicles. My husband and I been trying to conceive for 14 months, no positive test.

Anyway get to egg collection yesterday and they retrieved only 8 eggs, 6 mature. Today I get a call saying only 2 have fertilised via ivf. I feel absolutely devastated. I’ve been super healthy diet and exercise wise for 2 years. I’ve been on supplements and seen a nutritionist for 2 years and I really expected we’d get a result out of the egg collection but now I’m assuming they’re going to call me back tomorrow and say those two embryos aren’t gonna make it.

Totally lost as to what to do now. Anyone been in a similar situation?

Hey, I have endo and needed ivf as both my tubes are blocked due to it. I only started ivf after my laparoscopy as they removed an endometrioma from one ovary. I was told that this lowered my AMH due to damaging my ovary. We still got a good response from our cycle so I’m not sure if the surgery helped to improve our chance. It may be that after the surgery you’ll respond better if you decide to have another collection. I hope your 2 embryos carry on growing for you, there’s every chance that they’ll be 2 good quality embryos so try not to worry too much yet! Sending you lots of love xx

When I had my egg collection in the summer, 14 eggs were collected, 9 fertilised but only two remained. I had 1 transferred and 1 frozen! I was also devastated at the time to go from 14 to 1! But I remember being told on this page to stay positive as it only takes 1 embryo to have a successful pregnancy! I had my frozen embryo transfer done yesterday! 🤞🏽💕🤞🏽

Just an update all, of the two that fertilised, both today (day 2) the embryologist said are top quality. Her advice was to freeze them now and she said they then transfer when I’m ready back into the womb and not bother growing them for 5 days. She said she advises this when there’s less than 2 embryos and also because I have surgery to remove my blocked tube tomorrow so best to have something in the freezer in case something goes terribly wrong during surgery. We’ve gone with her advice but I am nervous that perhaps they wouldn’t have made it to day 5. We’ll never know until transfer I guess xx

Hi,

I was in a very similar position (age 34 at the time), having had endometriosis surgery the year prior. High AMH and had 13 mature eggs retrieved. Only three fertilised and I was devastated. Two made it to day 3 and the clinic didn’t want to risk them going to day 5 so had a two 3-day embryos transferred a few months later (had freeze all due to OHSS). I am currently 28 weeks pregnant.

It’s such a difficult time and I couldn’t take the embryologist’s call - my partner did instead. Just look after yourself and hope you manage to get some good news.
