Advice after egg collection

Hey

I had egg collection on Saturday, they got 29 in total but following checking them all and getting rid of the ones that were no good we got a final number of 10 embryos fertilised and in good condition.

Since then I have been taking the delightful cyclogest pessaries but no other meds.

I have been feeling quite bloated, not sick though and still able to have a wee fine but some slight pain if I have to have a number 2 (sorry for the over share!).

Anyone experienced this? I know one of my ovaries was slightly hidden so not sure if the pain is just from where they were doing their thing during egg collection!

I’m drinking loads of water. Any advice on what this could be welcome! X

Hi Clare,

Well done on getting 10 fertilized. That's a great number. I've been told you have to halve every number you're given and that's usually what number you'll get at the next phone call/stage. At least it's more realistic and doesn't set your expectations too high.

I had my first retrieval on Thursday and got 20 collected, 16 were mature, 13 fertilized. Today we hear back if any have made it to blastocyst. We're expecting a large drop off. Then we have to get them pgs tested, so another 10 day wait and more drop off!

Anyway back to your question. I'm still very tender especially when I walk or if I need to pee. I feel kind of like I have a spoke going through me when I sit and go to the loo so I think it's normal to still be feeling uncomfortable and bloated. It definitely feels like I've been sliced and diced and in effect I have been. It's totally normal to be feeling sore as you only had yours a few days ago. As long as you're still drinking loads and still weeing loads that's a good thing.

I was given some Voltarol suppositories to use for the first three days after the retrieval. That definitely loosened things up which I guess meant I didn't need to "push" so the pain was bearable but still there.

We have to go through so much! Hang in there xx

We really do have to go through a lot, your right there!

That’s a much better description of how I felt actually, having the spoke going through you.

Hopefully it will continue to ease over the next few days x

Well done 10 is an amazing number! We got 11 fertilised and 7 made it to day 1. Youve done really well. You’re doing everything right, drink plenty of water, my clinic said 3 L if possible - especially in this heat. I had problematic bowels following egg collection, I bought pregnancy friendly laxatives (fybogel) and the pain went straight away. The bloating is normal also, I found peppermint tea helped with that. You can always take paracetamol aswell xx

Thank you! I will get drinking the peppermint tea today to see if that helps me out. It seems to have eased up a bit today so hopefully it will continue to get better. Xx

Well done you have done amazingly well! I felt very very bloated and sore for a couple of days after. After day 4 the soreness started to ease off. I am still really bloated but I think that will just continue until I am off the pessaries x

The pessaries are horrible!

It has eased slightly today so hoping it will continue to get better as the week goes on! Xx

Fab numbers there Clare! I was quite bloated after EC and the drugs from sedation affected my bowels so much (TMI) that it didn't help the situation at all! As long as you are weeing ok that should be all good but keep an eye on it. Prune juice and fibrogel worked wonders too. The Cyclogest gets some getting used to and upsets your system too. Fun and games isn't it! Good luck for the next stage xx
