I had my egg collection yesterday (5th collection overall) but this is by far the most uncomfortable one I've had. Still feel in alot of discomfort and really bloated. I've also put on 4 pounds in two days.
Does anyone have experience of feeling like this after a retrieval and how long did it last for? Did the extra pounds fall off because of it being fluid? How long can the bloating last? Feeling really rubbish

I think my clinic told me if I put on 2lbs suddenly to speak to them. It might be a good idea for you to do that? Honestly for me I found it very difficult to lose the bloating and wasn’t up for doing cooking or exercise for at least a month after mine! I still don’t think I’ve lost the weight tho I maybe haven’t tried very hard. Also Christmas was in the middle. And my husband doesn’t cook the healthiest of meals.
Thanks for your reply. I've spoken to a doctor this morning and she's said that the weight gain just sounds normal for the amount that was retrieved (I had 37 follicles overall of which 27 had eggs). She thinks that this is just normal because of all the fluid build up. She doesn't think it is OHSS as yet, but they're keeping an eye on me. I'm at high risk as have pcos and a high AMH of 35.1.
My last cycle I had 25 eggs, and in other cycles I've had 22 eggs and 17 eggs and never felt anywhere near as bloated as this. Just hoping that if passes soon! And definitely don't need the extra weight gain 😩 great fun all of this isn't it!
My clinic told me if I put on 2/3 suddenly that I should speak with them too. They also told me to eat high protein less carbs and fats, and drink at least 2 liters a day. I recovered fast, two days after I was feeling much better. Fast recovery 😘🍀
If you feel really bloated and you’re uncomfortable for more than a week I’d get checked out for OHSS. I had it and there’s stuff they can give you to make it go away. I was told to drink 2-3 litres a day and to include isotonic sports drinks such as Lucozade Sport as they’re meant to help too xx
I had that after my 3rd egg collection, after a few weeks of eating healthy and going for walks I was still gaining weight, in the end the nurse at the clinic told me to go to the GP and get my thyroid function checked... Both my T4 and my TSH were hughly out of range... The stims had caused it 😓 it took months to get back to range and I'm still struggling with the weight. I would keep an eye on it and if it doesn't go down don't wait too long to raise the alarm bells! Good luck! X
It could be OHSS, especially if you start getting painful cramps. Worth calling your clinic and having it checked. I developed it fully 5 days after egg collection. They advised me to take protein shakes/yoghurts because protein helps absorb the liquid that builds up in the abdomen. A hot water bottle helped too. Good luck, I hope you don't get it!
