hi everyone, I’ve learned so much from these shared stories and hoping somebody could help shed some light on what’s ahead for me. I have 5 frozen blastocysts and waiting for my FET day and schedule. I had OHSS hence the delay and wondered how long the medicated cycle takes - i will be on buserelin
there has been one delay after another and just so nervous that there’s going to be another! Making plans for the year is tricky! Any advice greatly received.

hi hun, sorry to hear about the OHSS. It is rubbish especially if it delayed a fresh transfer and you have to wait for a new cycle (FET). When I had this I started new meds on day 1 of my period after having an initial bleed post fresh cycle which they called a bleed, not an actual period. Which meant starting meds for FET roughly 6 weeks after the cancelled cycle due to OHSS. But then it will depend on your medication type and plan and there are many different ways of doing it so ask your clinic and doctor! They will know best. When they added buselerin to my FET it was 2 weeks of injections and estrogen tablets and patches from day 1 of my period. Then 5 days estrogen and progesteron and then transfer of the frozen embryo.
Also some clinics have over delays in addition to the above due to how they work or covid or waiting lists if it is NHS funded. Again best to ring your clinic and get clarification!
Sorry about the OHSS, I developed it too and was no fun at all! As Riri says, clinics will wait for you to bleed after stopping the IVF medication and then for your first 'normal' period afterwards. Around the 21 day after that they would start you on the Buserelin, subsequently adding oestrogen and progesterone. Protocols differ, mine was around 5 weeks from from the start of the Buserelin until the actual FET. On the positive side, your body will feel much better after recovering from the OHSS and in general, FET is much easier on you. Good luck!
Thank you so much Eloquentia! I’m definitely being impatient but this makes me feel much better knowing a rough timescale, thank you for taking the time to share!😃
Hi there, yup the OOHS is nasty but definitely worth waiting until you feel better again to give yourself the best chance going forward. I had a modified FET that involved scan on cycle day 3 to check lining then they planned the meds and duration of meds as a result of that so was less than a month from day 3. Good luck with whatever approach they choose for you.
thanks starlight! Just had my treatment schedule through and looks like a whole load of new meds I’ve never heard of so researching now! Thanks for the reassurance, it’s hugely appreciated in a very confusing world. X
Oh so sorry to hear this, at the time is really is shattering, you have gone through all that to end up OHSS, then delay 😔.
Exactly the same thing happened to me, but looking back now it was the best thing. After all them drugs I let my body get back into the natural cycle and then went for frozen.
In that time I was able to get back to myself, fitness wise, eating healthy, keeping hydrated and then go for frozen cycle.
Our consultant at the time Dr Debono said you might not thank me now, but you will later. I did thank him later 🥰
Keep positive, your journey has just had a delay but you’ve done the hardest part with the egg collection. You can get yourself feeling 100% and hopefully have a success 🍀
thanks so much for the words of encouragement. Every day feels so much longer when trying to get to that final goal! So glad it worked out well for you
