OHSS

I’m feeling really emotional as I was due to have my ET on Saturday but I’ve developed OHSSsothey recommended I freeze my eggs and wait for my body to calm down. This is super hard to deal with as this sets me back another 2 months. My husband is also very disappointed and I feel like my body has let him down. I wondered if anyone else had this and what the process looks like for a FET.

I’m also suffering so badly due to my OHSS so any one have any tips to ease some of the symptoms or pains I would be really appreciative.

Hi Reetz, I’m so sorry to hear this. I too had mine cancelled due to OHSS and felt the same panic about delay. It’s a big anticlimax when you’re all prepared to go through a fresh cycle and get stopped. It is the right thing to do if you’ve got OHSS and your chances of success will be greater for having let yourself recover. I was also very emotional (and my hormones are still all over the place over a month on) so just be kind to yourself and know the feelings will pass. As for easing OHSS symptoms, I would suggest drinking lots of water and eating small meals often. Sleep propped up if it’s uncomfortable to lie down. Monitor yourself carefully and if your breathing is compromised get medical help. Mostly it’s just about making yourself comfy and riding it out I’m afraid (unless it becomes severe). Xx

Hello,

I was in the same situation my first cycle, I had to cancel and wait until I recover. IVF is tricky and difficult at times, try not to let it get to you, you will heal and try once you are ready, the worse part is behind you xxx Best of luck for the future FT xxx

Hi reetz,

I was the same I had my fresh transfer cancelled due to ohss, I cried I felt disappointed I really didn’t want to wait any longer. It was our third round, our first go with a new clinic, and all previous round I had a transfer at day 3 without anything to freeze, so I was really worried nothing would make it to day 5 for freezing. Luckily we had 2 day 5 embryos frozen and our back 3 months later. I can honestly say it was the best desion. My body had recovered from the collection I had no pain or anything and I’ve just got my first ever positive result.

I know it feels like a big disappointment at the moment but it will honestly be the best thing xxx

Same happened to me and I was devastated at the time, but it was the right decision because I was so poorly. FET are a walk in the park in comparison to the stimulation process, met your body heal and then come back stronger x

I was in exactly the same position back in August! It’s so disheartening waiting but I know how horrible ohss is and putting an embryo back in that environment would not be good and would probably make you even more uncomfortable. I had ohss and I was given medication to reduce the amount of excess fluid which worked within about a week. I then had to wait and have 2 natural periods before an FET. With an FET it involves some oral tablets, pessaries and a few scans just to check your lining is thick enough before the transfer. The good news is that they have higher success rates with an fet. I had my transfer in November and went on to get a BFP. Hang on in there

Wishing you the best of luck xx

Hiya, we had to do this last year and waited 2/3 months for a FET, OHSS stresses your body out loads and it's definitely best to let it recover. I had a FET planned a month after egg collection and I didn't even ovulate/ get an LH surge(I would always ovulate) so had to wait another month, but in my experience it's definitely worth it as our FET after was successful and my pregnancy has been going fine ever since. I understand your frustrations and but honestly the doctors are so experienced in this they know what works best and they want that little embyro to implant in the best conditions, try and be positive and keep healthy the next few months and prep for the FET, before you know it you'll be having that transfer! Good luck xxx

Oh and my FET just involved testing for an LH surge and then transfer was booked 5 days after that, didn't have to have any medications or scans etc xxx

I had the same thing and I was so disappointed at first, but I really did feel shitty after EC and in the long run it worked out for the best as had time to recover and look after myself and feel 100% again before transfer.

I bled very soon after EC, only 5 days, then waited till the next period to start FET. There are different protocols, and I didn't have to downreg, so it was about a 5-week wait before starting. It involved taking progynova orally from day 2 of cycle, scan around day 6 and progesterone pessaries from about day 10 with transfer on day 17. Once you get over the initial disappointment it really is for the best and I'm happy to say mine was successful. Best of luck with yours, hope the waiting doesn't seem to long xxx

Hi really sorry to hear this.. I've very recently had to freeze all aswell because they found a polyp in my womb and my blood tests showed I was at high risk of. Ohss. I was lucky though and almost all my symptoms settled within a few days other than the bloating.

I'm.not.far enough on yet to know what FET looks like but just wanted to say I understand how you're feeling. I'm struggling with my emotions around it atm. But a lot of people have said that there's actually better success rates with FET so hope that brings some comfort. Xo
