been trying for over a year 2nd baby. Nothing happening, I’ve had blood tests, ultrasound and internal, all fine, husband semen sample fine. We have been left in the dark about what to do next, doctor telephone appointment with husband said his results were fine, I’ve now got to refer myself to have due inserted and then x Ray. But what I wanna know of why do I have to refer myself and why can’t the doctors do this???Im just worried that our daughter won’t have a sibling, we have an amazing daughter. I just want a sibling for her. I’ve just had a good cry into my pillow as I’m scared this won’t happen. We are having sex before during and after ovulation, we have tried every day, every other to not putting any pressure on it. Nothing is happening

hello, sorry you’re not feeling great, I know how you feel! Have you considered fertility treatment? The general rule is for women over 35, if you have been trying for over 6 months with no success then you should seek fertility treatment. Although your numbers/test results are fine you may benefit from things like timed intercourse, IUI or even IVF depending on what the doctor says xx

it’s just the cost of fertility treatment, I’m going to ring doctors up Monday and get booked in, so I can see them face to face so I know my next steps. I need to know if they can refer me to hospital for this dye rather than myself doing it. Just been left in the dark x

Sorry you’re feeling scared and at a loss for next steps. You’re not alone, it’s natural to want your child to have a sibling, and to feel like your family is complete. Facing fertility challenges after you’ve conceived naturally can be very confusing and hard to come to terms with. While all your tests are normal, plenty of couples experience unexplained secondary infertility, but many go on to have healthy babies with a bit of a helping hand from science. It doesn’t have to be IVF, there are other routes you could try first. You’re probably doing this already, but it may be worth you both taking supplements and eating healthily. Also, if your eldest was born via c-section, it’s worth confirming there’s no scar tissue. Wishing you the best of luck!

I fell 1st time with our daughter, so was very very lucky and I did have c section, which I was thinking could there be something to do with that. How would I go about that, via my doctors? xx

Yes, you’d need a Dr’s referral, but it sounds like the procedure you’re doing with the dye and x-ray is a HSG, which should detect any scar tissue. So you’re already doing the right thing! If you have any issues booking the HSG, you could try a saline ultrasound or HyCoSy, which are similar-ish procedures. Another thing you could check is your husbands sperm DNA fragmentation, which isn’t covered in the semen analysis xx

okay, thank you. I’m going to phone doctors tomorrow and get a face to face appointment, will be weeks yet, but will ask for phone 1 aswell. Nothing else is booked yet, doctor said I’ve got to refer myself for the dye., but I’m gonna try and get them to refer me x

so spoke to the doctor today about being referred for the HSG and he has referred us to fertility team now, get the ball moving a bit.

I’m happy this is happening as they will probably provide me with HSG, as that was the next step for me x

An update

I spoke to a doctor today who is referring us to the fertility team. He said he could refer me for the dye and x Ray, but rather than delay, he just referring us to the fertility team.

Could anyone tell me what this means, what will happen etc. Sorry all new to this, as we was so lucky falling 1st time with our daughter

hello, I expected this. The fertility team will run tests for yourself and your husband and advise next steps. I can see you’ve already done some tests so they’ll review these and suggest others you’ll need to do to get a clearer view. Then they’ll advise on recommended treatments etc. sorry not familiar with the dye thing you’re after so I can’t comment on this xx

okay so they will get background idea of both of us look at tests we have already done, may re do them or new tests and then go from there?

I’m glad the doctor done this rather than other option, as it’s means we bit closer than just different doctor appointments etc and the fertility team will probably do the next test for myself which would of been the die and x Ray (to see in tubes are blocked)

yes that’s correct, and I agree that it’s worth a more thorough view. I did a laparoscopy a couple of years ago to remove endometriosis tissue, which is how they checked my tubes. If they suspect endometriosis they’ll probably do the same for you. I understand your procedure now, worth getting them checked for sure xx

Such great news you’ve been recommended to the fertility team. Well done for persevering! Your understanding of next steps is correct, just bear in mind it might be a bit of a wait. Good luck!
