1st Egg collection and OHSS risk - FET recommended

Hi everyone, I just wondered if anyone had experience of how FET proceeds following an attempted fresh cycle?

It's my first cycle and I had a very painful egg collection today on mild sedation. From reading posts on here, I expected to be more heavily sedated, but I was wrong! They had to stop the procedure twice but I was determined to get all the follicles aspirated. They collected 25 (20 from my right ovary and 5 from the left) and had to pierce through a ligament to get to my left.

As a result of OHSS risk, they've said they'll freeze any embryos created and transfer one when my ovaries have calmed down.

Has anyone experienced similar? If so, did your cycle resume as normal to allow transfer the following month?

Many thanks in advance. For now, it's bed rest, salt and fluids for me!

Take care all xx

Hi love! Oh I'm sorry it was so traumatic for you! Hope you feel better very soon. Better to be safe in this situation definitely. I believe most clinics like you to have one full normal cycle before doing a FET to allow your hormones and ovaries to settle xx

Thank you! Getting there today and hopeful I will be settled and have embryos to freeze 🙂

Hi! I am sorry to hear about your painful collection. I asked for the general anaesthetic as there were 30 follicles for collection. My clinic said that there is a higher risk of OHSS for anyone with more than 17 follicles collected, so they recommended a freeze all and no fresh transfer. I pushed for fresh transfer and on the day it was supposed to take place, the scan showed that I did have OHSS and the pains came soon after, so we did freeze all. I was told that a protein-rich diet would help manage the symptoms, including protein shakes and yoghurts. The OHSS resolved itself in a few days. Good luck, I hope you don't get it! For what it's worth, I found FET to be much easier on the body.

hi hun, sorry to hear it was soo painful and I hope you will recover soon. Fluids and protein indeed is the advice to help recover.

I had OHSS as well and on transfer day they decided against transferring so they froze my embryo’s that made it to day 5. I then had to wait for a bleed after stopping the meds. And started new meds for the FET on my period after that which came 4 weeks after the first bleed. So not too long of a wait but still very disappointing of course. But I felt rubbish with the OHSS therefor definitely the right decision.

I hope you will recover soon! And good luck with the FET! They are much easier on your body!
