I’ve been stimming for 7 days now and my clinic anticipates that tomorrow should be my last Antral follicle scan before egg retrieval next week. My clinic has told me from the beginning that I’m at risk of OHSS as I had a total of 35 follicles at my baseline scan. I appear to have around 16 follicles that they’re keeping an eye on that are over the 10mm mark.
My question is has anyone been able to do a fresh transfer with a count similar? Or did you do a frozen transfer - if so how long did you have to wait for the FET.
After waiting 18 months on the waiting list for treatment and numerous delays with my clinic I’m so happy to get to this point. It’s safe to say I’m more than used to waiting especially if it’s in my best interest to freeze all. I just wanted to know if anyone had a similar experience? xx

Take each day as it comes and hopefully all will run smoothly but if you do develop OHSS just be guided by what your clinic advice as they know your history
I was also in a similar situation, I had a freeze all in July, after getting 23eggs it was too risky for fresh transfer, the clinic will let you know what’s best for you.I’m currently waiting for my FET only because my holiday coincided with taking my meds & wouldn’t of been back in time to have a scan, needed a holiday more 😂 so my FET will be starting 3 weeks today instead, I’ve seen it as a positive personally giving my body time to recover properly as I was so bloated but everyone is different!
hey hun, oh I definitely don’t blame you for a well deserved holiday. I’ve been thinking the same, if I do have a break I was thinking of trying acupuncture to keep myself relaxed or a holiday. I’d really like a beach getaway but I didn’t realise so many hot countries were on the zika risk list 😭. All the best for your upcoming FET I hope you get a positive outcome xx
awww bless you, we just had a holiday in turkey & was still hot, was just nice to get away!!! 😊 I’ve heard acupuncture is great lovely, I’ve tried it & just weren’t for me I dunno what it was just didn’t find it therapeutic at all 😂
Whatever you do, enjoy and also wish you all the very best you deserve it & let’s hope for a great outcome for us both 😘 xx
Hiya. As somebody who recently had a fresh cycle and almost 4 wks later I’m still suffering with OHSS, definitely take the advice of your clinic but see how you feel.
Had a large no of follicles (can’t quite remember how many now) and 13 eggs collected, felt absolutely fine after the collection other than a bit of bloating and then it really took off about 6 days post transfer 😳
My OHSS is classed as moderate and I was hospitalised for 5 days and have had 3 wks off work so far as my abdomen is so distended I can’t do much. It’s certainly no joke!
In hindsight I would go for a freeze all, but because I was feeling fine my clinic thought I’d be ok despite my increasing oestrogen levels.
My advice, be extra careful and just make sure you’re ok and your oestrogen levels are ok. I know it would be disappointing if you were advised to freeze because you’ve been waiting so long and you just want to get on with things but please be careful. If any doubt, freeze all!!
Oh my goodness I’m so sorry to hear that you developed OHSS 😥 and I hope you will be feeling better soon. Freeze all does sound like it might be the safer option. I’ve just been so excited to get to this point and would feel like a come down not being able to get on with it and finally have a chance of a transfer. I will definitely take my clinics advice. I was just hoping that if they do freeze all if I could potentially transfer this year? I’m not sure if I’d have to wait a month or several months. Also thank you for the advice regarding oestrogen levels I didn’t know that was a factor if they’re increasing. I’ll be careful, love and best wishes to you hun xx
I developed late onset OHSS as I got a positive pregnancy test and that’s why it spiralled out of control. I’m very grateful, but it just feels like there’s even more to worry about beyond the usual anxieties, due to the OHSS complications.
I do hope you’re able to transfer this year. Completely understand how it feels wanting to get on with it! Good luck!! Xx
hey. I had 22 eggs collected in November last year and did a freeze all. I’m really glad. Gave me the chance to relax a bit after egg collection and had a transfer in March which was successful. I don’t know what would have happened if I had a fresh transfer, so I’m glad we froze and waited.
Hey, oh how wonderful it was positive 🤗💕that is really reassuring to know. Apart of me does wish I could have a fresh transfer as I’ve been waiting since last year but I will always go with what is recommended and the safest option. A month or 2 can’t hurt, I’m already in to my 2nd year of waiting and fingers crossed it will be worth it. I may book a holiday with my partner as we wasn’t sure If I’d be able to go away with all the treatment happening. Love and best wishes for you and your family and thank you xx
my hubby is from oz so we went there for Christmas and it was so nice to be able to let loose. We actually booked the flights in the hospital when we were waiting for egg collection, after we’d been told we were freezing! We had to put a positive spin on it. I’d definitely recommend a holiday! A couple of months, with the long wait you’ve already had, is nothing!! Good luck for whatever happens for you! All my fingers are crossed for you!
Hi! It is a really difficult decision but I would go with what your clinic tells you. I had 22 eggs collected in May and was very insistent on fresh transfer, mainly because my clinic had not mentioned that I would likely need to freeze all due to the large number of follicles. On the day when the transfer was supposed to happen, I started experiencing very painful cramps and sure enough, when they checked me, I had developed OHSS. So we did do a freeze all and this was absolutely the right thing to do. OHSS is extremely unpleasant (drink protein shakes/yoghurts and sport drinks with electrolytes if you do develop it) and my body really did need the time to properly recover after it. Plus my consultant said that the majority of OHSS cases after stimulation are mild to moderate. The serious OHSS is the one that happens in the case of successful implantation if you do go ahead with a transfer after the stimulations as your HCG doubles every day and makes it worse. Good luck!
hi hun, thank you for your reply and sharing your experience. My goodness OHSS sounds so painful. Will I only know what the clinic advise after egg collection? How long after your egg collection did you have your frozen transfer? Xx
It is painful and painkillers don't help. Hot water bottle was the only thing that worked for me. You will be advised by your clinic after egg collection. My clinic told me that the general recommendation was not to go ahead with fresh transfer if there are 16 or more eggs collected but that you could develop OHSS with fewer too. If you do go ahead with a fresh transfer, ask them to check you for OHSS on the day and be very honest about any symptoms of bloating, pain etc. The good thing is that the risk of OHSS goes away as soon as you get your first period after IVF. They started my FET treatment after the second period I had after the IVF and the FET itself roughly 3 months after the egg collection. It sounds like a long time but I felt my body really needed it to recover. Good luck! xx
I feel a freeze all is better in general anyway. Let your body calm down with or without OHSS. You'll feel better for it too ❤️✨️ huge good luck. Exciting xxx
thank you lovely for your reply 💕. How long after egg collection did you have your frozen transfer? Xx I think my clinic will close near Christmas so I was hoping I could have a frozen transfer this year? I’ve read some people have it after a period has gone by and some have several months after.
I had egg collection Dec and then transfer March. Which was long but they removed polyps during EC so they wanted to wait for everything to calm down. I think they wanted me to have two periods in between too. This gave me time to mentally prepare and eat well/cut alcohol and sugar xxx
Hi, just saw this and wanted to say I’m so happy you’re on your way, I know it’s been a really rough wait! I had a freeze all due to ohss risk. I remember being gutted at the time as we’d also taken so long to get to that stage but in the end it was the best decision. Egg collection took it out of me a bit and I was in a much healthier and stronger place a couple of months later and we did our transfer. Xx
hey hun, oh my goodness yes you remember how long it’s been especially since getting transferred to the other clinic. I cannot fault this clinic, they are very much on the ball with everything and my stress levels have calmed all the way down since being in their care. The nurse said after their daily review with the doctors she will call with my last instructions regarding the trigger and also let me know if they will be opting to do a freeze all or fresh transfer dependant on what my blood test shows. It’s all very exciting and becoming real now. In my mind I’ve already planned if they say ‘freeze all’ with a much needed sunny and warm holiday 💕.
I had a EC in May and with 21 collected, was advised that FET was the only way forward. I was a little disappointed at the time and although I only experienced mild symptoms, I think it was definitely the right decision to give myself a chance to recover and be fully well for transfer. Plus the delay was not too bad - transfer was in July. Best of luck to you!
thank you for your reply 💕, by the sounds of it most clinics will advise if freeze all is the best option. I asked yesterday at my last scan if they suggest freeze all but I’m assuming my OHSS risk may have gone down as the nurse phoned yesterday evening and said the doctor doesn’t see a reason to not to go forth with a fresh transfer. As much as I will take the recommendations of the doctors I’ll always go with my intuition and how my body feels after EC. If I feel any type of pain after egg collection I’ll let them know of my symptoms to review. I don’t mind which one I have xx
I would freeze, I went through the whole cycle my self and went through OHHS it was unpleasant. If I was told this by my clinic and the side effects of doing it straight away, I would have chosen FET. But ofcourse if your situation allows you to.
thank you for your reply hun, I asked yesterday in my last scan if they think I’ll have a freeze all? I’m having my EC Tuesday. The nurse phoned yesterday evening to say they don’t see a reason to not have a fresh transfer so I’m assuming by my blood test results have shown that my OHSS risk may have declined? I guess I’ll just see how I feel after my EC, going by many women’s experiences you start to develop symptoms several days after this so if I don’t feel well I’ll make it known to the clinic so they can review my options. Xx
