Mucus plug at 8 weeks pregnant? (warning - possibly TMI!)

hi ladies, i'm a bit panicked and hoping someone can reassure me. We had a scan at 7w3days which showed everything looking great, so yesterday 7w5days we decided to have a 'gentle' attempt at 'dtd' (sorry if TMI but definitely not all the way in if that makes sense!)

Anyway later that afternoon when i was inserting my pessary and lump of brown tinged jelly came out on my finger that looks like a mucus plug would look. it didn't look at all like semen? Am now panicked if that is what it was that i shouldn't he inserting my meds up there for a little while in case of risk of infection etc (but i can't obviously stop the meds yet and i also don't know for sure what it was?!) What if it was the mucus plug as my cervix was softened by semen r sobethibg? Or i'm hoping it wasn't and my mind is just going into overdrive! I have some meds i can switch from vaginal to oral but not others! is it still safe to be putting my finger up there??? 😩

Hey, if you are worried definitely speak to your clinic or EPU as I don't think any of us can provide guarantees, but just to say I had almost exactly the same thing happen at almost exactly the same time. We hadn't DTD for ages and I finally gave in as we were on holiday and I was 7 weeks 5 days and afterwards I had brown spotting and it was sort of jelly like, and then pink watery discharge and I FREAKED out.. but all was fine and I think it was just irritation of the cervix, it happened several time after sex so I whacked another sex ban on him for a few weeks and when we tried again later it was ok. Hope this is the same for you - good luck x

ok that's really reassuring - thank you so much. What did your clinic say the jelly stuff was to you?? cx

I didn’t speak to my clinic at the time. Do get checked out though, I am sure all is fine but don’t want to tell you it is when I’m not a medical expert x

Hey 👋🏼 It’s probably irritation of the cervix as it’s soooo sensitive when you are pregnant and also using pessaries even the internal scans did this to me so between that and having sex it could easily cause a bit of discharge they would have checked your cervix was long and closed at your scan so it wouldn’t be your plug if they said everything looked good xx

Hey, just wanted to add it could just be some discharged mixed with a bit of old blood from irritation to your cervix. I found that I had increased discharged like crazy in those early weeks and felt a bit like jelly. Also I’ve had a bit of spotting after sex which the EPU said was normal and common, it’s so scary when it happens it’s put me off having sex 😂 Hope you’re okay and can get some reassurance ❤️
