low AMH 0.5 and 10 follicles

hello

Hope you’re all well.

I am new here - I wondered if anyone has had a similar experience to me. I went for a fertility MOT about a month ago as I just wanted to gain a better understanding of where I’m at as I want to freeze my eggs.

I was told that my AMH is low (0.5 pmol/ l) and I have 10 follicles (5 on each ovary). Since then, I have become really concerned about the AMH (I am 34) so it was a bit of a shock. I have started doing acupuncture and taking traditional Chinese medicine to help prepare my body for the egg retrieval. The clinic told me I needed to do at least 3 cycles which would cost 18k, so I have now started to consider clinics in Spain and hope to go through the process in April.

Based on the research and your helpful posts, I have ordered Coq10 and DHEA. I’ve also had blood tests to check my vitamin levels and check all hormone levels (including FSH) but I am really worried that the egg retrieval will not be successful. Has anyone had similar levels to me and gone through the retrieval process?

Thank you so much

hello lovely, I had only 3+2 follicles at tge age of 38. We did ivf straight for ababy as opposed to just egg freezing and were successful. I don’t know about egg frrezing in relation to amh but if you already know this and want to do something to preserve your fertility, do it now. Hopefully someone will be able to provide specific info to egg freezing in your situation.

Hi Holly I only 4 or 5 follicles in total each egg collection. My AMH was around 5. I also had 3 egg collections and had my eggs frozen but at the age of 39-42. So much later than you. The chances were so slim for me but I decided it was worth it. I am now 45 years and 26 weeks pregnant with my new partner. Have a look at my profile and let me know if you have any questions x

Hi Holly,I don't have any experience of egg freezing (wish I'd done it a long time ago!) but just wanted to share...

I'm also 34 and AMH was 0.8 about a year ago. We've been through two rounds of IVF and each time they only retrieved one egg. Both times they fertilised though and the last one resulted in pregnancy, but unfortunately I miscarried at 10 weeks. 10 follicles sounds really good and it's sounds like you're doing all the right things! Good luck! X

I had an AMH at last check of 3.2 and 12 follicles at my baseline scan or antral follicle count scan. They retrieved 4 eggs at egg collection although it was looking as though I would get 6. The AMH number is generally meant to give you an indication of how many eggs they would expect you to get at egg collection but people do sometimes beat that but sometimes they do also get less. For example when my AMH was 6.9 I only got 5 eggs. I think the number of follicles at your baseline scan/antral follicle scan is a better indication in some ways although not all of them grow and end up having eggs in them. A lot of it depends on finding the right protocol for you too. For example with an AMH of 3.2 and despite a baseline follicle count of 12, it was looking as though I was only going to get 1 or possibly 2 eggs when they put me on a protocol which wasn't right for me and we ended up cancelling the cycle. I would suggest that you ask the consultant's view on how many eggs they would expect you to get on each egg collection based on those numbers and how many eggs you would need to freeze to be in with a reasonable chance of creating embryos from them at later date (i understand that they expect to lose a proportion of eggs in the defrosting process) before you go ahead and spend that kind of money on egg freezing as having the full information should help you to make decisions and ensure that you are not wasting money if they don't think you are a suitable candidate for egg freezing.

thank you for sharing your insights with me. I appreciate it so much. I’ll definitely be asking the consultant some more questions based on this. Thank you xx
