OTD bfn age 42. Should I try again?

Hi everyone,

so as post said our results are in and it's an BFN. On this cycle I got 7 eggs all fertilised however only one made it to 5 day blast 4BA which they said was good quality.... nothing to freeze unfortunately.

I have a son from a cycle in 2017 which we are so blessed with.

I am thinking that perhaps this is a waste of time. It's obviously an egg issue.should we give it one last shot or call it a day?

My AMH is 18.

any advice or success positive stories at my age I would really appreciate.i am in limbo xx

oh thank you so much for your reply. You give me hope, in my heart I want to try again. We had decided this would be our last go, and I don't think I'm ready to give up yet. My husband I don't think is as convinced, think he's more concerned with throwing more good money after bad type of thing.

congratulations on your pregnancy, and wishing you all the best for the remaining weeks. ❤ You have cheered me up.

can I also did you try anything different on your last round that you think might have made a difference?

If you want another one keep trying. That AMH is good. I think you can accomplish it.

hey Ruby,

I am 42, had been told by my clinic in uk after my first round that my eggs were no good and if we were to move forward we need to look at donor.. I just wasn’t ready to give up yet and on my 2nd round with a clinic in Cyprus we were left with 9 embryos on day 5, one of which I’m now 25 weeks pregnant with!!

So glad I ignored the uk clinic’s advice.

The clinic in Cyprus gave me some names of supplements to take to improve egg quality, I don’t know whether they helped or it was coincidence but definitely didn’t do any harm.

I would totally advocate going abroad as it is so much cheaper, and honestly the patient care was loads better.

Hi Kazbzzz, I came across your reply and would be grateful if you could PM me your clinic’s details in Cyprus. So pleased it has worked for you xx

hi Ruby, sorry to hear your transfer has failed. I’d recommend changing clinics because your AMH is really good for your age, so there’s definitely potential. All the best xx

I think your AMH is great for age and you got a good number of eggs.

I would definitely say try again but also look at sperm quality before starting another round, due to the fact that one egg made it to day 5. You can get a sperm DNA fragmentation test which really looks at the quality (the ones you get at the clinic just look at mobility and motility). Or you can decide to skip the test and just make sure that your husband eats healthily, doesn’t drink alcohol and takes supplements, all for at least 3 months before collection. I think at our age, both partners really need to be preparing to make the embryos as healthy as possible. Totally your choice, but I would definitely say give it another go! Good luck 🤞 xx

Hi Ruby, I am 44 yo and had a baby in July with Zita West using my own eggs.I had been with IVI London since I was 40 yo and had 2 failed transfers with them, they never checked my Nk cells nor did an Era, my embryos were PGT tested and high quality and all IVI ended up suggesting was that I use a donor!!

Personally I think the clinic does make a difference and I find that Zita works very much on a tailor made basis, they apply whatever needed to the patient rather than going for what works for most people.

I wish you the best of luck!
