Pain after egg collection

hi everyone, I had egg collection on Friday and have been in terrible pain ever since. First off I have been dreadfully bloated and full of trapped wind, which I have not been able to relieve no matter what I do. My tummy is still so swollen, I can’t even get my work trousers on.

Secondly, this morning, it seems the trapped wind has died down, but I have the worst pain in my ovaries! Like the most extreme period pain of my life!!

I’m wondering if any one else has experienced this, especially since it’s now 4 days post procedure? 😞

bloating or swelling that won’t go down sounds like it could be mild OHSS. It’s very unpleasant but it does get better!

Try drinking a LOT (3-4 litres a day, I know it’s hard), and try alternating water with full fat milk or drinks high in electrolytes like coconut water or mineral drinks. Also make sure you’re eating protein (eggs, chicken, Greek yoghurt).

If you feel you’re struggling to wee , or if you feel worse, call the clinic because they can give you some medication to help.

Hope it settles down, I felt awful after my last EC but it settled down by day 4 or 5 🤞 x

Thank you so much for your reply. I wish I had found this forum at the beginning of my journey. At least I know that what I’m feeling is normal. I guess it does make sense that you’d feel this way when your ovaries have really been through the mill. I’m very bad at drinking so much fluid, but I’ve got a pushy husband (in the nicest possible way) who is there to keep me in check.

I honestly didn’t think I would feel this pain, I was expecting to go back to work on Monday, 3 days after my EC. Dreamer! I know every body is different but there’s a friend of mine who did just that, and I think I expected to be the same.

Trying to explain to an all male chain of command that you can’t come to work because you have sore ovaries is interesting 🤦🏼‍♀️. But they’ve been really good about it all luckily.

Anyway, all being well we should be good to go for our transfer tomorrow morning, so I’ll have to get myself together!! X x

not only are people different, each procedure is different. After my two first ECs I went back to work the next day and felt fine - after numbers 3 and 4 I felt horrendous! 🤷🏼‍♀️ So your body can also react differently.

Hope it’s all settled down and transfer went well, fingers crossed 🤞💫 x

As 1st post says it should settle down in a day or two but if it gets worse or you seem to be passing less pee than normal - you should call your clinic for advice

Take care

Janet

Hi Janet, thank you for replying. It’s crazy that something so small causes so much pain, but at the same time, it’s a lot for our bodies to go through isn’t it. And in the end, when our loving blastocysts decide to implant, and we’ve got a beautiful baby (or maybe two) out of it, it will definitely be worth all of this pain x x

Hi monkee. Sounds like your ovaris are still active. You must drink at least 3L water a day for a few days. Keep an eye on your urine output - pale in clour and plenry of it. If it gets dark and y/or you become breathless you must see the doctor or A & E. Safe to take paracetamol for pain, but no anti inflammatories such as ibuprofen. Have a little rest, but walk around too. Hope all soon settles. Diane

Thank you for the advice Diane. We went for our transfer today (I wasn’t letting anything stop me). And the consultant did say my ovaries are very enlarged and bruised. She said I’m no doubt feeling this way due to a combination of my EC and the affects of the progesterone gel. She reiterated that I must be drinking lots of fluid, which I am very bad at but I’m getting there 😊 x

Thank you so much for asking. I’m so much better now. Our clinic have been amazing and call us all the time checking in, so I mentioned the pain and they asked to see me. I had a scan and they told me my ovaries were very enlarged, but all was normal.

I had my embryo transfer on Wednesday, we had a double transfer. Now the wait… 🤞🏻🤞🏻 X x
