I have my first ever FET coming up beginning of November and I'm feeling very nervous about the procedure.
Im looking to hear about some of your experiences please.
How long does it take? How painful? How full does your bladder have to be (this is randomly my main concern as I always like to go to the toilet before ANYTHING or I feel more nervous 🤣). Are you in a chair with styrrups or lying flat?
I'm hoping the more I know about it the less anxious I'll feel!
Im on an nhs funded cycle and have been given minimal info from my clinic the whole way along.
Thank you! Xx

You’ll be in a chair lying back with your legs in stirrups. Pretty much like when you have a scan.
It’s only a few minutes, I’ve never found it painful at all. It’s a little uncomfortable but the more full your bladder is the easier and quicker it is for the consultant to perform the transfer.
The thoughts of having a full bladder sounds worse than it is, I’m the same , even if I don’t need a wee I still go incase 🙈
Honestly it’s nothing to worry about, in my opinion probably the easiest part of ivf 🙌
Procedure was really quick and painless - I was in and out in 10 minutes to my amazement. I was also worried about the full bladder! I wasn’t too uncomfortable by the time I got to the transfer and thought it might not be full enough but they said it was 😅 Try not to stress and focus on getting a good night’s sleep if you can! All the best to you.
Thank you Somoe! Its very reassuring to hear its over quickly and bladder doesnt have to be full to the point of discomfort! Xx
Hey Gozo22. Echoing the others, I've found my 3 transfers pretty quick and no less comfortable than a smear test. The nurses said my bladder should be full but not so much that I'm desperate for a wee. One transfer I remember really needing a wee, but the procedure went quickly and it wasnt too bad!
At my clinic, the Dr did a little test run first with no embryo in the tiny tube. You can't feel that at all. Then she loaded the embryo, did the transfer (you can see it as a little flash on the ultrasound which is very cool!) and then you just have to wait for the embryologist to take the tube and check the embryo has definitely gone from there.
I don’t have any answers for you but thought i would reach out as my first ever FET will be in November too 😊 how exciting for us!! Wanted to wish you all the best and sending lots of baby dust your way!!
I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions nearer the time !! Lol xx
Awww Thankyou too sweetie!!! Fingers crossed to us both!!! 😀😀 I’m doing a medicated transfer, what about you? So at the min it really depends when my period arrives this month, to commence the meds, then scan etc if my dates are correct, transfer will likely be 3rd week in about 16th November there or there abouts!! We will see, Will keep in touch, Good luck hunni xxx
Aww yes🤞 hope your period comes when its expected and all goes well with the meds.
Im doing unmedicated, period is due 19th Oct, so assuming I ovulate around 14 days later, I then added 5 days which will be 6th Nov... so sometime around then. Defo keep in touch, good luck!! Xx
For me it was very quick - maybe 5 minutes tops - completely painless and the only discomfort was the full bladder. It is really amazing to watch the screen while they do the procedure and quite emotional so try to enjoy the moment and just think you could be watching the first ever image of your baby 🥰
